Man Found Living In Woods Near Lanoka Harbor McDonalds A Convicted Sex Offender

Police early this morning arrested a California man after they responded to a report of a "suspicious" male living in the woods near McDonald's restaurant, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Officer Darrell Nick arrived at the site at 8 a.m. and soon located Norman Myers, 55, of Canyon Country, California. A computer search led to the discovery of multiple warrants from California and Illinois, but none allowed for extradition, the chief said.

"While Norman Myers was not subject to arrest and incarceration for the out-of-state NCIC warrants, further investigation revealed that he was in violation of New Jersey’s Sex Offender Registration law for failing to register upon moving into this state," Paprota said.

Nick arrested Myers, who was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $10,000 bail, the chief said.

Police later discovered that Meyers had "temporarily resided" on Beach Boulevard in Forked River roughly two years ago, Paprota said.
