Sean Sharkey announced that he will not be seeking re-election

After three years on the Lacey Township Committee, Sean Sharkey announced that he will bid farewell come 2014. Sharkey, one of two Democrats on the Committee, announced in February that he would not be seeking a second term. Sharkey strives to become a full-time teacher, he said. Due to few teaching opportunities locally, he might seek employment elsewhere, including out of state. “I've also lived my whole life in this town, and it's great,” he said. “It's funny because growing up here we all wanted to get out as soon as possible, but when you finally grow up you realize that Lacey is a great place to live and maybe one day raise your own family. Sean Sharkey 'will continue to fight hard for the people of this town' in his last year as Committeeman

To the Citizens of Lacey Township: In November of 2010, I was elected to the Township Committee in order to bring a new voice to a governing body that had been under one-party rule for half a decade. Along the way to my election, I met with many people with many different needs. During the last two years while serving I’ve met even more. I enjoy helping the people of this town as much as I can. Whether it is working with various citizens groups, reaching out to an individual with a problem, or sitting on the dais during a town meeting, it has been a pleasure to serve.
