The paralyzed Lacey firefighter and Union City police officer was laid to rest Friday
Before the casket draped with an American flag was placed on the back of a Lanoka Harbor fire truck to be transported to its resting place, bagpipes sounded to “Amazing Grace.” An emergency scanner went off with a member of the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department speaking in honor of Daniel Inglis Jr. “You will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Rest in peace Daniel,” the scanner said. Inglis, 25, of Lanoka Harbor — a police officer with the Union City Police Department and a volunteer with the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department — died on Monday, a year and six days after he suffered paralyzing injuries due to a motor vehicle accident. Inglis, 25, who became a quadriplegic after a motor vehicle accident just more than a year ago, is being remembered as a "fighter" and "hero"
A viewing for Daniel Inglis will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Riggs Funeral Home on Route 9 North in Forked River. Inglis, 25, of Lacey Township died just more than one year after he suffered paralyzing injuries due to a motor vehicle accident. According to his obituary, Inglis died on Monday at his Lanoka Harbor home with his family by his side. Hundreds have written on Facebook in memory and honor of Inglis. He is being remembered as an “amazing young man,” “strong,” “kindhearted,” “fun” and “loving.” “God gained an amazing angel, a fighter, and a hero in heaven today,” Meghan Lee said on Facebook. “Dan had the ability to make each and every person smile. The Inglis family reported that Daniel, a former Union City cop and Lanoka Harbor firefighter who became a quadriplegic after a motor vehicle accident on Christmas Eve in 2011, has died. “This morning our beautiful son became an angel in Heaven, God needed him to protect us from above now,” the family wrote on the “Support for Daniel Inglis” Facebook page. “Daniel is at peace, it was his time, even though some might say he was too young, he accomplished so much, loved so many, and made an unforgettable impression on everyone he touched.” Daniel Inglis, 25, was leaving the Lincoln Tunnel when he got into a single-car accident and found himself in the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City just more than a year ago.
