Massive Fire Destroys Five Boats At Lacey Marina

Multiple agencies on scene at Ocean Beach Marina to investigate blaze

Firefighters and investigators are still probing an early morning fire at Ocean Beach Marina that destroyed five boats. “When we got here, five boats were fully engulfed in the fire,” Kevin Perrone of the Lanoka Harbor Fire Company said. “We just pulled the supply line in and soaked it down.” Five boats were destroyed, and two are severely damaged, Perrone said. The boats, which varied in size to over 40 feet in length, were in dry storage and located at the southeast corner of the marina’s property. The fire company was dispatched at 1:30 a.m. A total of 46 firefighters from the Forked River, Bayville and Waretown fire companies brought the fire under control by 3:30 a.m. and left by 5:30 a.m. “The wind caused it to spread real fast,” …

Lanoka Harbor Home Uninhabitable After Shed Fire Spreads

No injuries were reported but the residence is uninhabitable

A Lanoka Harbor home was left uninhabitable after a blaze spread from the shed, Lanoka Harbor Fire Department Chief Jack Amrozewicz said. No injuries were reported. When the fire department arrived at 912 Seagull Drive at 5:15 p.m., a shed was overcome by fire with exposure to the house, Amrozewicz said. “I walked around the house to size up the situation,” he said. By the time I got back to the front, the fire had spread onto the house.” The home was occupied at the time but there were no injuries, he said. The fire destroyed the south side of the home. “The house is uninhabitable at this point. The entire second floor is destroyed,” he said. The fire company knocked down the blaze by 5:45 p.m. and remained on the scene to vent the house…

On the March: Lanoka Harbor Firefighters Rack Up Awards at Parade

Fire company awarded for appearance at Pompton Lakes Fire Department 110th anniversary celebration.

The Lanoka Harbor firefighters' dedication to their equipment impressed their colleagues at a recent parade, where they were showered with awards. The fire company took the trip north to Passaic County June 11 to take part in the Pompton Lakes Volunteer Fire Department's 110th anniversary parade, where they marched in mutual celebration. "We weren't expecting anything like [what] we got," said Mark Amrozewicz, a volunteer firefighter and assistant engineer at Lanoka.  The Lanoka company, established in 1941, has been going to the Pompton Lakes parade every year, according to Amrozewicz, but had never brought any of their fire vehicles along with them. "This year I had a crazy idea to take our aerial — our ladder truck — up [to Pompton …

Emergency Service Capital Requests Unfeasible, Mayor Says

Fire, EMS requests consist of trucks, vehicles, ambulances, a power stretcher and more

Emergency services presented their proposed budgets to the township committee at a budget workshop meeting. For the most part, the figures were maintained from the previous year. But the fire departments and EMS did request capital budgets that Mayor Gary Quinn does not see as feasible for this year. Quinn said items requested related to safety will be looked at and considered but the major items are unrealistic at this time. The township would have to bond for necessary items like a new ambulance for Lacey EMS and a power stretcher for Lanoka Harbor EMS, which some of the committee members would be opposed to, Quinn said. Four out of five committee members would have to vote in favor of the bond. The fire trucks and vehicles that other …
