The drawing for $1,000 in gift prizes will be on Wednesday, Dec. 12
The Lanoka Harbor EMS is sponsoring its first annual Winter Raffle fundraiser. The raffle, which began on Sept. 9, had sales interrupted due to Hurricane Sandy and the nor’easter. “Members found it difficult to sell tickets because many people had either lost homes or had been without power for an extended period of time,” said George Resetar, President of Lanoka Harbor EMS. All funds acquired from the raffle will be used to offset the expenses for the raffle prizes and the remainder will go towards recovering funds that were exhausted during Sandy, the release said. “From the Sunday before the storm, the leadership and members of Lanoka Harbor EMS had all apparatus staffed and ready to go,” he said. EMS, firefighters, police worked tirelessly during Hurricane Sandy to keep township safe
When township officials and emergency services met to prepare for Hurricane Sandy, they developed a plan to limit risk to first responders by halting rescues in floodwaters for those who ignored mandatory evacuation orders. But when those floodwaters became a harsh reality, everyone from public works and recreation employees to police, fire and EMS staff, disregarded that directive. “It was on the fly. There was a need so we decided to give it a try,” said John Hode, president of Lacey EMS. Front-end Loaders ‘Not Really Meant For Rescuing People’ They coordinated rescues from a triage on Sunset Drive and another at the Lacey Elk’s Lodge on Beach Boulevard where they utilized an ex-military truck and township front-end loaders to go through…

Lacey Township remembers the fallen
Residents of Lacey marched from the United Methodist Church to Bicentennial Park where a Memorial Day ceremony was held today. The parade featured several color guards, an army truck and military vehicles, a bicycle contest, a fly over with missing man formation and more. “It’s important to honor the service people that passed away in past wars,” Bruce Baker of the Veteran's Commission previously said. “We remember the service people who gave it all. Some give something, some give it all.”

Sunday, May 20 through Saturday, May 26 was declared National EMS Week
The township committee presented a proclamation in honor of the Lacey and Lanoka Harbor EMS squads for National EMS Week. President Barack Obama declared Sunday, May 20 to Saturday, May 26 National EMS Week with the theme “more than a job, a calling.” The proclamation thanked the EMS squads for all that they do recognizing their value, accomplishments, hard work and dedication. Committeeman Dave Most expressed personal gratitude as the EMS squads have had to respond to his house in the past. “I’m kind of embarrassed to say that but I’m not embarrassed to say how proud I am and how attendant you guys were with myself and my family,” said Most, who used to be the liaison to the EMS and fire companies. “I can’t tell you how much that means to…

There’s still time to register for Lanoka Harbor EMS’s second annual Poker Run on Saturday, May 5. The 60-mile course will be similar to last year’s and the event will feature hundreds of dollars in prizes, said Bob Resetar of Lanoka Harbor EMS. There will also be a $500 value grand prize. “You don’t have to ride; it’s an event for everyone who wants to come out and support the squad,” Resetar said. The ride will begin and finish at Gille Park in Forked River, taking place from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The event includes bike games and a barbeque for all paid participants. The all-terrain vehicle will enable the EMS squad to respond quickly to injuries and drive in areas an ambulance could not go
The Lanoka Harbor EMS squad will soon have the ability to make rescues with a new all-terrain vehicle (ATV). “It will just give us a lot of ability today,” Chief Bob Resetar said. “Yes, we’ve done without it for so many years but that doesn’t mean it’s the right way to do it. It will give us a whole lot of response capability that we didn’t have before.” The squad was awarded a 100 percent reimbursement grant by the state Department of Homeland Security. The township will have to shell out $79,400 for the vehicle and will later get reimbursed. The vehicle will give the squad the ability to respond more quickly to scenes, Resetar said. “There’s a lot of different types of events where it would be useful on an ongoing basis,” he said. During…
