The Lacey Township Recreation Department is currently taking registration for its spring fitness programs. These programs are scheduled throughout the spring season and include opportunities for all ages. Power Yoga-Pilates is a fusion based class combining athletic based yoga poses and the Joseph Pilates body slimming and core exercises. This class will take place at the Lacey Township Recreation Classroom on Tuesdays, April 2 through June 11 at 7 p.m. The fee for this program is $80.00 for the ten week session or $10 per class. Gentle Yoga is a 60 minute class consisting of all facets of fitness: breath work, flexibility training, strength, endurance, balance, and relaxation. Bring your own mat and water to practice. The Lacey Township Municipal Alliance along with the Recreation Department is hosting a Family Fun Walk on Saturday, April 20 at Gille Park. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with family fitness. The morning will be packed with fun, refreshments, giveaways and information on promoting healthy living. Pedometers will be offered to the first 150 people who register for the event. The Recreation Department is now taking registration for the winter session of Art with Joszie
A young boy said, “good work” to his friend after a painting was sold at an art show held at the Recreation Department’s office Thursday night. Four young artists displayed their artwork after participating in classes through the Recreation Department. The kids were under the guidance and instruction of professional artist Joszie, who works with oil, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, combinations and other mix medias. “I really like to draw, express my feelings,” John Fedlam, 9, said. “It’s just fun. It makes me happy.” Fedlam has been drawing since he was 3 years old and enjoys drawing trains. He wrote and illustrated his first book, The Fruit Flies, when he was just 6 years old. The Lacey Township Recreation Department is now taking registration for its fall senior citizen day trips. Registration is being taken at the Recreation Office at 818 W. Lacey Rd. Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Senior residents will have the opportunity to visit the following popular residents: Thursday, Aug. 23 Seniors can enjoy a day of racing at the Monmouth Racetrack in Oceanport. Busses will depart from Gille Park at 2 p.m. The first race is at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be on your own while at the racetrack. The Saturday, Aug. 25 event is fundraiser for the anti-substance abuse group
Every Tuesday at Gille Park on Manchester Avenue, now through the end of August, a contingent of around 20 Lacey Township residents is meeting to train for the Municipal Alliance 5K race. Led by local fitness enthusiast, Nick Giovanni, this is the second year the Township Recreation Department has offered the Train for Your First 5K course. "There's a nice array of running experience in that class," said Recreation Director James Wioland. "People can register in the recreation office." The $30 fee pays for the course and race registration. The 12th Annual 5K Race and One Mile Fun Run will take place Saturday, Aug. 25 at Gille Park. Lacey beaches open Saturday, June 16
Lacey's beach season begins today and the township will celebrate with a Beach Bash today at Deerhead Lake Beach at noon. The bash will feature a castle competition, pirate treasure hunt, and the music of DNA, a Caribbean infused pop duo. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Lacey Township’s beaches may not border an ocean but there is beach access to a creek and lakes in which beach badges are now available for. Pre-registration for walk underway
The Lacey Township Municipal Alliance and the Township Recreation Department are joining with the Lacey Township Education Association in sponsoring a Family Fun Walk from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28 at the high school track. "Our emphasis is on families doing things together," said Alliance Coordinator Heather Scanlon. "It serves as (drug and alcohol abuse) prevention." The township will be offering a variety of new summer camps
Registration for summer programs is now open and Lacey Township Beach Badges are available. In addition to the township's annual Summer in the Parks program, the Recreation Department is offering a variety of new camps. “These popular programs are scheduled throughout the summer and will provide our residents with great opportunities for all ages,” said James Wioland, Lacey Township's Recreation Director.
