Suspects in several other burglaries, thefts still sought
Township police are investigating the theft of more than $8,000 in jewelry from a Musket Road home after someone forced their way into the residence, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers Noah Schaffer and Jeffrey Slota responded to a 12:40 p.m. residential burglary call on April 26 at the Lanoka Harbor home. They discovered that the suspect or suspects used physical force to enter the house when the occupants were not at home, he said. "A resident stopped home for lunch and upon entering the house heard the front door slam," the chief said. "Upon checking the home’s interior it was discovered that the home was burglarized. Two Forked River homes were targeted recently by thieves for outdoor air conditioning parts, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. The first incident was reported at 7:12 p.m. on April 17 at a home on Lake Barnegat Drive. The resident told Officer Alan Abrecht that someone removed their Goodman air conditioning compressor located in the side yard by cutting its connections. The part was valued at $1,200, the chief said. The second theft was reported at 7:26 a.m. on April 19 by a homeowner on Clearwater Drive. The resident told Officer David Nick that two air conditioning compressors were stolen from outside the house between 8 a.m. on April 18 and 7:30 a.m. on April 19. Laurel Boulevard resident reported fraudulent incident
If someone calls, identifies themselves as a Microsoft employee and asks to repair your computer remotely, don't believe it. That's the warning Police Chief David A. Paprota has after a reported incident of telephone fraud at 3:20 p.m. on April 20. A Laurel Boulevard resident contacted police about a male who called and identified himself as a Microsoft employee. The man said there was a problem with the resident's computer and that he needed to access the computer remotely to make the repair, the chief said. Entire plumbing, heating system stolen, police chief says
The owners of a home on Maui Drive got an unpleasant surprise when they went to check on their unoccupied Sandy-damaged home, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. The owners called police at 5:30 p.m. on April 22, after it was discovered that many item were missing from the home in the Forked River section of the township, he said. "The entire hot water baseboard copper piping system was removed from the home, along with plumbing pipes, fixtures and sinks," Paprota said. Lanoka Harbor woman charged with possession of heroin, police chief says
Police have credited an alert resident with providing information that led to the arrest of a Lanoka Harbor woman on drug charges, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers Julie Barcalow, John Simonson and Lt. James Veltri responded to the call around 6 p.m. on April 8. The resident saw an out-of-state U-Haul van with a male driver and a female passenger leave Western Boulevard and drive into the woods just before the Cedar Creek Bridge, the chief said. Police arrested Samantha Hajjar, 22, Fox Hollow Drive, Lanoka Harbor for possession of heroin and 22 wax folds of heroin. She was also charged with trespassing, Paprota said. Chelsea Favor taken to Ocean County Jail after hospital treatment, police chief says
Lacey police recently arrested a Forked River woman on numerous drug charges after she was found unresponsive at a Canterbury Drive home, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers who responded to the home on April 10 and helped paramedics treat Chelsea Favor, 33. They discovered two bundles of heroin while they were assisting, the chief said. Favor was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Officer Andrew Slota issued an arrest warrant for Favor. She was charged with possession of heroin including 18 full wax folds and eight wax folds containing residue, Paprota said. Paprota, appointed Chief on March 15, has been actively improving the department since he became Officer in Charge upon former Chief Bill Nally’s retirement. Forked River man found dead in Leguene Avenue home
The call came in at 10:32 a.m. last Friday - an unresponsive male in a Leguene Avenue home. Shortly after police officers arrived, 21-year-old Derrick Russell was pronounced dead at the scene, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Russell was the second person to die that day under 'suspicious' circumstances. Twenty-two-year old Megan Otte was found dead in a Yorktown Drive home later that same day. Authorities have not determined the cause of both deaths, pending toxicological test results, Paprota said. The Lacey Police Department is being assisted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, and members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminalistics Investigation Unit.

Warrant arrests, criminal mischief and other reports
A Toms River resident was arrested after he allegedly fraudulently attempted to obtain prescription drugs from a Lacey pharmacy, Chief of Police David Paprota said. Zinovy Rapoport, 38, of Toms River was transported to Ocean County Jail April 3 after police said he attempted to obtain prescription drugs from the ShopRite pharmacy, Paprota said. Rapoport allegedly called the store posing as a representative of a physician's office and ordered a Vicodin prescription for a fictitious patient, Paprota said. When Rapoport arrived at the pharmacy to pick up the prescription, he was confronted by Lacey police and arrested, Paprota said. The pharmacist had recognized that the prescription was fradulent and called the police. Rapoport was charged …

The Lacey Township Committee voted to hire four new full-time police officers who will begin their training at the Ocean County Police Academy Thursday, April 18. “These are exceptional candidates. We are very fortunate to have such a good group of candidates coming in. We have high expectations of them and I’m sure they’ll deliver,” Chief of Police David Paprota said.
