Forked River Man Charged With Heroin, Cocaine Possession After Foot Chase

Pedro Marcano also facing other charges in connection with May 15 arrest

Lacey police arrested a Forked River man recently on drug charges after a foot chase that ended near the Home Depot store on Route 9 South, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Pedro Marcano, 22, Deerhead Lake Drive, was charged with posession of a controlled dangerous substance, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and hindering his own apprehension, the chief said. Lacey detectives spotted Marcano acting suspiciously, in a manner consistent with drug activity, on the afternoon of May 15. As they approached him, Marcano immediately fled on foot towards a Route 9 commercial parking lot, Paprota said "The suspect dropped several items consistent with heroin packaging during the foot chase," the chief said. Police Searching For Suspects In Attempted Burglary of Forked River Pharmacy

Incident occurred early Monday morning, police chief says

Lacey police are investigating the attempted burglary of the Forked River Pharmacy on Route 9 South earlier this week, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers responded to the pharmacy at 6:55 a.m. on Monday on a report of criminal mischief and attempted burglary. The incident occurred sometime between the time the store closed on Sunday and early morning on Monday, before the pharmacy opened, the chief said. An unknown suspect or suspects pried open a rear door at the pharmacy, but did not enter the main part of the store. Nothing in the pharmacy appeared to have been stolen, Paprota said. The damage was estimated at $500, he said. Detective Robert Surtees is investigating.

Forked River Man Charged With Drunk Driving, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident

Lacey police have charged a Forked River man with drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident at the intersection of Lacey Road and Municipal Lane. John Dykhouse, 50, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, following too closely, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, failure to report an accident, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers Noah Schaffer and Joseph Soto responded to the 3:39 p.m. accident on May 4. Two passengers in a 2009 Honda Civic were struck from behind by a 1996 Chevy Cavalier driven by Dykhouse, the chief said. …

Police Bust Lacey Couple: Seize Oxycodone, Cocaine From Hawser Drive Home

Lacey Township police have charged a Forked River man with running a "large scale" Oxycodone distribution from his home on Hawser Drive, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Detectives combed through Christopher Franzone's home and Chevrolet Tahoe on May 10, after obtaining two search warrants. The arrest was the culmination of an investigation into the possible distribution of Oxycodone, a schedule III narcotic opoid, the chief said. They found 1,300 in Oxycodone pills, cocaine and marijuana. The street value of the Oxycodone pills is estimated at $40,000, Paprota said. UPDATE: Two Men Charged In Theft Of Air Conditioning Unit From Sunrise Beach Home

One caught after foot chase, the other turned himself in; both face numerous charges, police chief says

Two men who attempted to cut an air conditioning unit from a Tiller Drive home in Sunrise Beach have been apprehended, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Police received a call at 9:10 a.m. today from an alert resident who saw the men in a silver/grey pickup truck cutting an air conditioning unit from the home, the chief said. The resident was home at the time of the incident. His car was in the garage with the door closed. "So it appeared no one was home when the two subjects backep up onto the property and stole the air conditioning unit," Paprota said. Student Arrested At Lacey Township High School, Charged With Criminal Mischief

Lacey Township police officers recently arrested an "out of control" male student at Lacey Township High School and charged him with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Officers Joseph Soto and Darrell Nick responded to the school at 10:47 a.m. The student, a 17-year-old male, punched and damaged a 40-inch Phillips LCD televison set valued at approximately $500 and a grease board, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. "This damage occurred within the school’s office as the student shouted obscenities," the chief said. Police Arrest Two Area Men On Weapons Charges After Altercation

Incident occurred at New Jersey Transit bus stop on Route 9, no injuries reported

  Two area men were arrested and taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River recently after police responded to a dispute involving a knife at a New Jersey Transit bus stop, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Several police officers responded to a 911 call at 11 p.m. on April 25 about an altercation at the bus stop on Route 9 and Jones Road in Forked River. They recovered two folding knives and one fixed blade knife believed to be used by two mean during a "heated argument," the chief said. More Than $8,000 In Jewelry Stolen From Musket Drive Home

Suspects in several other burglaries, thefts still sought

Township police are investigating the theft of more than $8,000 in jewelry from a Musket Road home after someone forced their way into the residence, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. Officers Noah Schaffer and Jeffrey Slota responded to a 12:40 p.m. residential burglary call on April 26 at the Lanoka Harbor home. They discovered that the suspect or suspects used physical force to enter the house when the occupants were not at home, he said. "A resident stopped home for lunch and upon entering the house heard the front door slam," the chief said. "Upon checking the home’s interior it was discovered that the home was burglarized. Thieves Hit Air Conditioning Units In Several Homes, Police Chief Says

Two Forked River homes were targeted recently by thieves for outdoor air conditioning parts, Police Chief David A. Paprota said. The first incident was reported at 7:12 p.m. on April 17 at a home on Lake Barnegat Drive. The resident told Officer Alan Abrecht that someone removed their Goodman air conditioning compressor located in the side yard by cutting its connections. The part was valued at $1,200, the chief said. The second theft was reported at 7:26 a.m. on April 19 by a homeowner on Clearwater Drive. The resident told Officer David Nick that two air conditioning compressors were stolen from outside the house between 8 a.m. on April 18 and 7:30 a.m. on April 19.
