Lacey Republicans Face Contested Primary

Three Republicans and two Democrats have filed petitions for the 2013 primary election

Lacey’s Republican primary will be contested for the first time in several years as three Republicans and two Democrats have filed petitions to run for the two open seats ahead of this year’s township Committee races. Two seats on the Committee are open this year—those of Democrats Sean Sharkey and Helen DelaCruz.  DelaCruz filed a petition to run to keep her seat while Sharkey announced in February that he would not be seeking a second term. Democrat Gary Vaccaro, who ran against current Mayor David Most in 2011, will once again vie for a seat, according to primary candidate filings provided by the township clerk's office.  While the Democratic primary is not contested, the Republican primary is. Christopher Reid and Peter Curatolo, …

Regina Discenza congratulates the incumbent winners

My sincerest thanks to the 4,576 people in Lacey Township that voted for me in the recent school board election. Congratulations to the incumbent winners. But the real thanks go out to all the power people. To all those electrical workers from here, there and everywhere that have come rushing to help get the lights back on in New Jersey- THANK YOU to all 11,000 of you. Our family hasn't left town much since the storm but it was heartwarming to see the power truck convoys coming in from out of state in the days after the storm. We are so grateful for all the help- Union or non union!! In time of disaster, ALL help is welcome! To the folks with chain saws clearing trees working round the clock- God Bless you all. May the Jersey Shore recover…

Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy Overshadows Election Results

Re-elected incumbents express thanks to constituents

Although distracted by the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the township, Lacey’s incumbents, who retained all contested seats, expressed thanks to their supporters following Election Day. “I’m very proud,” said Mayor Mark Dykoff. Dykoff and Committeeman Gary Quinn each earned three-year terms after fending off a challenge from Democratic newcomer Shawn Judson. Quinn picked up 7,783 votes or 39 percent while Dykoff received 7,568 votes or 38 percent of the votes. Judson got 4,389 votes or 22 percent. “It didn’t even feel like we had an election,” Dykoff said. Dykoff has been busy dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, he said. “That’s really our concern. I really haven’t had the time to think about (elections). I’m honored that the …

'Heavy Turnout' at Polls Despite Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

Those voting in District 3 and 18 at Murray Grove were relocated to the Lanoka Harbor First Aid Building

Polling places seem to be busy regardless of the complications Hurricane Sandy may have caused in Lacey Township. Polls are running smoothly and are “extremely busy with heavy turnout,” Township Administrator and Municipal Clerk Veronica Laureigh said. Those voting in District 3 and 18 at Murray Grove were relocated to the Lanoka Harbor First Aid building on Manchester Avenue due to problems related to the storm but it’s unclear whether the change has had any sort of impact. Denise Field was originally supposed to vote at Murray Grove and said the change did not affect her. Fortunately, she was notified of the change today on Lacey Patch’s Facebook page. “I’m concerned for the elderly. They were confused,” Field said of the polling change…

Democratic Candidate Withdraws from Lacey Committee Race

The Democratic Party has until Thursday, Sept. 13, for a replacement candidate to file for Election Day

County Democrats will be searching for a new Township Committee candidate as Nicholas Toth, 26, has dropped out of the race. Toth has been accepted into Cornell University and will be going away to college, said Barry Bendar, municipal chairman for the Ocean County Democratic Committee. At the time of his nomination, the Democratic Party was unaware that Toth was considering going to college, Bendar said. He added that Toth applied to numerous schools, some closer than others. “It would be difficult to have a committeeman in upstate New York,” Bendar said. “It’s great for his future. We’re sorry he can’t see things through.” Toth submitted a letter notifying the County Committee that he would be withdrawing. He also is resigning from his …

I read the aforementioned post @LT Guy and truly believe it should have said, ..."Nick's FORMER running mate...". As to your assertion that there is influence from the Repubs in the Ocean County over the Dems, I would have to say that, " if someone told you (second person) to jump off a bridge, would you?" It is likely that you may very well drown. I will refrain from commenting on the …   more ›

Fall Committee Races Set as Parties Avoid Contested Primaries

Incumbent Republicans Mark Dykoff and Gary Quinn are up against two Democratic newcomers in the November municipal elections

Lacey's party primaries will be uncontested as two incumbents and two Democratic newcomers have filed petitions to run for the two open seats ahead of this year’s Township Committee races. Two seats on the committee are open this year — those of Republicans Mayor Mark Dykoff and Gary Quinn. Dykoff and Quinn both filed petitions to run to keep their seats, township Administrator Veronica Laureigh said today. Democrats Nicholas Toth and Shawn Judson also will vie for seats on the committee for 2013. The 2012 municipal race has the potential for a party power shift as three Republicans and two Democrats currently head the committee. A Republican majority has maintained the committee for more than a decade. The primaries will be held Tuesday, …

Republicans the Clear Choice of Lacey Voters

Township residents overwhelmingly favor GOP in Senate, Assembly, county and municipal races

The majority of Lacey voters chose Republicans in every race on the ballot Tuesday. Approximately 32 percent of the township's registered voters came to the polls, impressing township officials who expected only 3,000 to 4,000 rather than the 5,984 who voted, Mayor Gary Quinn said. “I think there were a lot of issues thrown at the race at the last minute,” Quinn said. “Election time, a lot of this is a report card from the people. You live by the vote.” Voters came out to express that they feel the township is on the right track, Quinn said. Incumbent David Most retained his seat on the Lacey Township committee as he picked up 55.64 percent of the votes over Democratic newcomer Gary Vaccaro. “Moving forward, the committee is in good shape…

Incumbent David Most Wins Re-election

Republican David Most took 55.64 percent of the votes

Incumbent David Most retained his seat on the Lacey Township committee as he picked up 55.64 percent of the votes in Monday nights race. “I feel relieved and I feel that the voters have spoken,” Most said. “I thank them for having confidence in me to manage our town.” Most, whose term was up Dec. 31, 2011, was on the Republican ticket while Democratic Newcomer Gary Vaccaro also vied for the one open seat. The general election had the potential to lead to a power shift since the committee has been maintained by a Republican majority for more than a decade. “I appreciate Gary Vaccaro for stepping up to the plate and challenging me because it’s important to have people of confidence in government,” Most said. “I thank the voters for having …

Congratulations Dave. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Actually two pretty decent guys. Lacey would be a winner with either. The only problem here are the sneaky little slimmer's, running around with their OWN agendas. None of you did either candidate a favor by bad mouthing the other candidate.   more ›

Steady Turnout at Lacey Polls

Polls close at 8 p.m.

Polls close in less than four hours and according to representatives from various sites, turnout has been fairly steady in the general election that could lead to a party power shift on Lacey’s committee. Although workers at the polling locations said crowds have been stable, at approximately 2 p.m., Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh said it was light. “It’s an off year election. It doesn’t get a lot of people coming out,” she said. Committeeman David Most, whose term is up Dec. 31, 2011, is up for re-election on the Republican ticket while Democratic newcomer Gary Vaccaro will try to earn the seat. The general election can lead to a power shift if Vaccaro is voted in since the committee has been maintained by a Republican majority …
