1.     The Friends of Lacey Library is holding their annual book sale today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 2.     It is May Friendship Day at the Forked River Presbyterian Church. The purpose of the event is for women to build friendships. Join women of all faiths at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. 3.     There is a fundraiser for MS at Community Hall on Route 9 in Forked River from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults in advance, $12 at the door for adults, $7 for children in advance, and $9 for children at the door. All proceeds benefit Metro New Jersey National MS Society/Bike MS. Should the School District Reinstate their Community Education Program?

The Lacey Township School District is running a survey that will determine whether they will reinstate their community education program. The program was put on hold this year due low enrollment. The former program included community classes such as basket making. Assistant Superintendent Vanessa Clark said there is strong interest in technology, personal enrichment, and fitness classes. Today’s question of the day is should the school district reinstate their community education program? If so, what type of programs are you interested in?

Forked River Fire Department Receives Additional Federal Funding

Forked River Fire Department to receive over 160k in federal funding

The Forked River Fire Department will receive $163,297 in federal funding through two Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grants. “The grant couldn’t come at a better time. The town’s hurting for money. And I have been putting the budget in for a few years. This is saving the taxpayers a lot of money. The town would have to go out and bond for this money," Chief Kevin Flynn said. The latest grant, which was announced today by Congressman Jon Runyan (R-N.J.), amounts to $48,600 and has the lifetime of three years and does not require a ten percent municipal match. Families Celebrate Literacy

The Forked River School holds Literacy Fair and Open House

The schools parking lot was at capacity as families flocked to the Forked River Schools Literacy Fair and Open House. Moms, Dads, Grandparents and kids all shared in this fun family experience. Students served as tour guides for their family members as they visited the various stations throughout the school. All in attendance were able to actively participate in the many activities including: the writing process, examine students’ writing, and learn about the schools literacy program. The stations included: Interactive White Board activities for students and parents, NJASK Parent information, a visit from author Lori Lee Carson, Storytown Literacy Program display and Composers’ Corner. One to three inches predicted

Just as the snow finally melted, the National Weather Service is predicting snow mainly before 4 a.m. with a possible accumulation of one to three inches in Lacey Township. According to the National Weather Service, the overnight low will be approximately 21 degrees rising to a high of 37 on Feb. 22. There is also a slight chance of snow before 9 a.m. on Feb. 22. The Weather Channel is predicting severe weather in Lacey Township around 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 22. According to the Weather Channel the snow should stop by 9 a.m. the latest. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory and a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Ocean County through Tuesday morning, which may affect the morning commute. Two Ocean County Roads Rank in State's Deadliest Dozen for Pedestrians

Route 9 and Route 549 together had 13 pedestrian deaths from 2007 to 2009

Two Ocean County roads ranked in the dozen deadliest in the state for pedestrians in recent years, according to a report released this week by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, a nonprofit that examines roadway use in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. The report compiled data from 2007 to 2009, the most recent year that statistics on pedestrian deaths was available. County Route 549, which begins as E. Water Street and then Hooper Avenue at its southern terminus in Toms River and continues as Brick Boulevard in Brick, was the deadliest example of such a road in Ocean County, report data shows. A total of seven pedestrians were killed along the route from 2007 to 2009, and though there were no deaths in 2009, the road still ranked …
