Recently adopted resolution sets procedures for termination of service due to non-payment
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority has modified its procedures for termination of service due to non-payment. “You will be getting written notice if for whatever reason your water is to be shut off due to non-payment. You will have what really amounts to almost one month to pay the bill,” said Committeeman Sean Sharkey at a recent township meeting. Sharkey is the Co-Chairman to the LMUA. Under the newly adopted resolution, adopted earlier in March, any account that has a past due balance of $100 or more is subject to termination of service due to non-payment. Previously, homes would be put on a lien after a certain time of non-payment. More than 1,024 homes had utility liens that were included in the Lacey Township tax sale of 2012 …

After purchasing township property in 2010, the LMUA was originally told they would not need site plan approval
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority (LMUA) was reluctant to approach the Planning Board for approval of facilities that have existed for 15 years. At the request of the township, the LMUA submitted a final site plan application and had it approved by the Planning Board on Monday night. “We have been directed to be here today by the township and we are here seeking final site plan approval for what has existed for about 15 years,” LMUA attorney Jerry Dasti said. Up until two years ago the LMUA leased storage and maintenance facilities on township property and had a cell tower built. When the township was struggling financially in 2010, a deal was solidified to have the LMUA purchase the property for $500,000, Deputy Mayor and Planning …

Water consumption charges will increase by $5.36 for the year
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority (LMUA) approved raising water consumption rates by 4 percent at its annual rate hike hearing. “It was necessary because the number of vacant homes and a reduction of water sales has decreased revenue,” Executive Director Edward Woolf said. The adjustment to current water service charges is a $5.36 increase for the year. Depending on the meter size, the majority of Lacey ratepayers will pay $34.76 to $48.65 per quarter in 2013. The rate increase is necessary to maintain the LMUA’s system and to meet its bond requirements, Woolf said. In addition to the vacant homes, there were 1,464 delinquent accounts, amounting to $1.162 million, a number that has increased over time, Woolf said. That is 10 percent …

Ten homes in Lacey have been deemed uninhabitable
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority (LMUA) is waiving certain fees and charges for Hurricane Sandy victims. For any homes deemed uninhabitable, the LMUA will cease quarterly service water and sewer charges, Executive Director Edward Woolf said. Also, the LMUA’s board agreed to waive fees for water turned off at hurricane-damaged homes in November. The fee is typically $35. "They thought it was the right thing to do,” Woolf said. The LMUA turned water off at 61 homes, he said. So far, 10 homes were rendered uninhabitable and service was ceased. With more than 11,000 customers, the LMUA has not taken a significant financial hit since Hurricane Sandy. “It’s not a huge problem. We were very lucky in this area,” he said. After the …

The new wells will provide 1,500 gallons of water per minute
The township Planning Board unanimously approved a resolution for the Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority to construct two new wells. After receiving a water allocation permit, the LMUA will be modifying its water treatment facility at Chelsea and Bayonne Streets in the pines for well seven. The current system, for well one, provides 500 gallons per minute to the Authority’s system on a daily basis, Engineer Alan Dittenhofer of Remington Vernick & Vena said in November when the plans for the new wells were passed. That well, along with wells two through five, isn’t confined. “There is a chance that it can ultimately at some point be contaminated so the authority decided to proceed with that to have an alternate source,” he previously said…

Two new wells are expected to be in service by the end of 2012, officials say
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority has applied for a loan to cover the costs of a new water treatment facility, Chairman Jim Knoeller said. “We’re going to try to go with a conventional loan,” Knoeller said. The loan would save in bonding costs, which could otherwise amount to more than $50,000. The loan through Ocean First Bank would be up to $2.5 million but the LMUA is hoping to borrow $1.5 million, he said. The water treatment facility will be used for township wells, including two new ones, which the LMUA just received a water allocation permit for through the state Department of Environmental Protection, Knoeller said. “All we have to do now is build the plant and then we could use those wells,” he said. The LMUA should know …

Sewer service and consumption charges will increase by $13.32 for the year
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority (LMUA) voted unanimously to raise rates by 4 percent at its annual rate hike hearing Wednesday night. “It is necessary to examine the rates and fees to ensure the authority's revenues are adequate to support our expenses including operating and maintaining the water and sewer systems, meeting our bond obligations and preparing for the long-term repair and rehabilitation of our infrastructure,” Executive Director Edward Woolf said. The adjustment to current water service charges is a $5.16 increase for the year. The present rate for the LMUA’s sewer service and consumption charge is $83.17 per quarter. After the rate hike, ratepayers will pay $86.50 per quarter. The increase would be $13.32 for the …

I used them for years in my old house but this water is like oil, there is no filter or water conditioner to get that out. It stains. I was shocked at the condition of the water. See, I'm right in line of the leak from the old Shell station so yeah, it flowed downhill. No way I'm touching that stuff, I'm sure it would flame if I tried.   more ›
