The Seabreeze community created a cookbook, donating $1,100 to the food bank so far
Twenty copies of a Seabreeze community cookbook are still available with fund benefiting the Lacey Food Bank. During the summer, the Seabreeze community decided to put their recipes to good use and make a cookbook. “We do a fine job at partying around here,” Pat Carlson said. “We have all these wonderful recipes.” Once the cookbooks were made, they were put up for sale in October for $20 a copy. Approximately 80 were sold and $1,100 was donated to the food bank. “We all eat so well,” Carlson said. “There’s so many people, especially in Lacey, that just don’t have that kind of luxury.” Each cookbook was about 50 pages and contained approximately 80 recipes. “It’s done very nicely,” she said. Seabreeze still has 20 copies for sale. Carlson …

The high school Interact Club in conjunction with the Forked River Rotary Club did their annual shopping spree at Walmart today
Approximately 68 high school students went on a shopping spree at Walmart today as part of the Interact and Rotary Club’s annual gift collection for families in Lacey, Barnegat and Waretown. The students arrive at the superstore at 7:30 a.m. where they receive envelopes with children’s gender, age and interests. Christmas gifts were bought for approximately 500 kids. With a full shopping cart of Barbies, baby dolls and Nerf guns, Treasurer Danielle Padovani and Jaimie Napoleon were shopping for a five and seven year old girl as well as a 10-year-old boy. “We don’t know anything about boys. We’re kind of winging it,” Padovani said. “But we put a lot of heart into it.” Napoleon enjoys volunteering for this event because kids whose parents …

On Tuesday volunteers from throughout the town came together to organize gifts for Lacey Food Bank families. “There are so many people from so many places. People from all walks of life are here,” said Caroccia, co-chairman of the Lacey Food Bank. Distribution will take place Wednesday morning as parents line up in Community Hall to receive vouchers for their children. The parents will then proceed to pick gifts specifically to their child's liking from hundreds of items that were donated to give on Christmas day. “It’s a …

Lacey Township High School lineman Joe Elefante has been dubbed Mr. Touchdown after the varsity cheerleading squad’s annual fundraiser for the Lacey Food Bank. Harold Peters of the Food Bank said he was “overwhelmed” by the team’s donation of $1,000. Each year, the cheerleaders campaign for their chosen senior football player by selling votes for a dollar each, Coach Jennifer O’Boyle said. The cheerleaders ask for support throughout the community and tables were also set up at games where spectators can vote. The fundraiser has raised almost $3,000 in the past three years. Cheerleader Savannah Gray campaigned for Elefante and raised the most money at $112. Gray participated “to help the food bank,” she said. “It’s awesome especially …

The Lacey Food Bank is serving more families since Hurricane Sandy
More than 200 families in Lacey received turkeys today after the Lacey Food Bank’s annual thanksgiving meal distribution. “It’s really a community-wide effort,” said Harvey Allen, President of the Forked River Rotary Club. Both Walmart and Shoprite made donations for the meals and the Forked River Rotary Club as well as Lacey Township High School Interact Club volunteered at the distribution. Students arrived at 7:15 a.m. to unload truckloads of food. They organized the tables and placed one of each food item—turkey, peas, carrots, bread, stuffing, cranberry sauce and more—in a bag. Participating in Stamp Out Hunger could help feed hungry people in Lacey and surrounding communities
You know that bag of food you’ve been meaning to drop off at the local food pantry? This Saturday, your mail carrier will do the work for you. May 12 marks the 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger, and it couldn’t be easier to participate. Simply put a bag of nonperishable food out with your mail. Your postal worker will collect it on his or her route and deliver it to a local food aid organization. Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest single-day food collection drive, according to the U.S. Postal Service. Last year, carriers picked up 70 million pounds of food. Each can, each box of spaghetti, each tuna tin is food that’s desperately needed. A 2011 food insecurity study by Feeding America found that nearly 49 million people—including one of …

The Lacey Township High School cheerleaders raised $300 for the Lacey Food Bank
The Lacey Township High School cheerleader’s recent fundraiser for the Lacey Food Bank was a slam dunk. The winter basketball cheerleaders held a fundraiser called Mr. Slamdunk. Each cheerleader designed their own t-shirt, dedicated to a different player on the basketball team, and shook cans in school. Senior Samantha Weigand raised the most money, winning a gift card for her and senior Tyler Smith, the basketball player she fundraised for. “We donated $300 to our local food bank because we wanted to support a charity in our community,” Coach Aimee Del Vento said. “I am beyond proud of my team this year and I hope they have learned a life lesson that giving is more rewarding than receiving.”
