Meteorologists say coast won't get hit with as much snow as north Jersey, but could see flurries
An autumn storm packing winter power is tracking up the east coast, and while Ocean and Monmouth counties are expected to get mostly rain, the shore may see a few snow flurries Saturday night. Meteorologist Valerie Meola of the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office said a nor'easter-like system will hit the area before 6 a.m. Saturday. "In most coastal areas, we'll see rain," she said, "but there may be a few flakes that mix in," especially as temperatures drop into the low 30s Saturday night. The NWS has also issued a coastal flood advisory for the area Saturday, as storm conditions may combine with unusually high tides to push water into low-lying areas along New Jersey's bays and oceanfront. The same storm may dump up to a few …

We will see a wet end to the month of September as an upper level low that has parked itself over Illinois is going to keep our region in a wet pattern until the middle of next week. Due to the positioning of the Jet Stream in Canada, this low currently has nothing to push it onward so we are going to be locked into this weather pattern for several more days. The week will begin with periods of clouds and some sun on Monday. There is the chance of rain showers throughout the day. The temperatures should be in the high-70s with the chance of more showers and a thunderstorm overnight. On Tuesday, the cloudy skies will continue with temperatures reaching the low-80s. There will be the chance of on and off showers throughout most of the day as…

After receiving an early fall preview last week with cooler temperatures, we will see a bit of a warm-up approaching 80 degrees by mid-week as we say goodbye to Summer and welcome Fall into our region. The week will begin with mostly sunny skies and pleasant temperatures that will reach the high-60s. There is the slight chance of a scattered overnight rain shower. Tuesday will bring some clouds into our area as there will be a mixture of sun and clouds. The temperatures will rise into the mid-70s but with the low humidity it should feel rather comfortable outside. The wind may gust up to 15 mph. By midweek, we will see partly sunny skies with temperatures rebounding into the high-70s. The humidity will rise throughout the day. Wind gusts …

Last week’s prolonged period of rain from Tropical Storm Lee continued to saturate the ground, leading to nearly 10 inches of rain in Phillipsburg in northwest New Jersey. This week, the sun will return and the ground will once again get a chance to dry out, as there are few chances of rain in the near future. A cool Canadian air mass will then allow for fall-like temperatures to come to the area later in the week. On Monday, our area will see partly sunny skies with temperatures reaching the low-80s. The humidity levels will be low allowing for comfortable conditions outside. The wind may gust up to 15 mph throughout the day. There will be mostly sunny skies on Tuesday with temperatures once again making their way into the low-80s. …

Once rain starts, it won't stop, meteorologist says
Rain bands from Hurricane Irene have now moved into the majority of New Jersey's coastal areas, as well as many of the inland areas of the Garden State. The first effects of the massive hurricane come as its wind speed has weakened slightly. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm is now packing 85 m.p.h. winds, down from 90 m.p.h. winds that were measured in an early morning update. The storm is now located just over 300 miles from Atlantic City. All of the coastal counties of New Jersey remained under a hurricane warning, and mandatory evacuations were in place on all local barrier islands and in some other waterfront communities. A disaster area declaration made by President Barack Obama on Saturday allows the Federal …

Latest forecast track shifts Hurricane Irene closer to the coast
More storm coverage throughout the day and through Sunday. Please check back often. Monmouth and Ocean County residents face both voluntary and mandatory evacuations as Hurricane Irene appears ready to strike the Jersey Shore by Sunday. Long Beach Island residents will be forced to leave by Friday morning, and officials from Belmar, Berkeley and Toms River are asking residents who live near the shoreline to leave voluntarily. Governor Christie has declared a state of emergency that will mobilize the National Guard to address the hurricane preparedness, and he also strongly encouraged everyone to stay away from the Jersey Shore this weekend. The forecast track of Hurricane Irene will cause significant impacts regardless of its exact course…

This week will bring a mixed bag of soggy conditions, sunny days, and seasonably warm temperatures
The “Dog Days Of Summer” are officially over. This is a weather phrase that refers to the hottest and most humid days that fall between July 3 and Aug. 11 in our region. Once this period comes to an end, our area usually experiences more seasonably warm temperatures. The workweek will begin with mostly cloudy skies and plenty of humidity. The temperatures will be in the mid-80s. There will be a high chance of showers and possible thunderstorms throughout the day, so make sure you are prepared for this soggy start to the week. On Tuesday, there may be some lingering showers early on in the morning but then we will see periods of clouds and sun with temperatures in the low-80s. Wednesday should be the highlight of the week as the clouds from…

The scorching heat that we have grown accustomed to over the past several weeks will release its grip over our area and allow for more moderate temperatures throughout the week
August will begin with hot temperatures in the low-90s. There will be partly sunny skies with plenty of humid air around that may spark an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, so be sure to have your umbrella handy. On Tuesday, we will see mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the high-80s. The humidity will not be as high so it will feel more comfortable outside. By midweek, the temperature should once again cross the 90 degree mark. There will be partly sunny skies with increasing humidity later in the day. Along with the higher humidity comes the threat of another late day shower or thunderstorm. On Thursday, there will be a mixture of sun and clouds with temperatures in the upper-80s. Winds may gust up to 20 mph throughout the day. …

The sweltering heat wave will subside but hot and humid air is still sticking around as July comes to a close
This past week brought temperatures that broke records and had many hoping for some relief from the heat. While it won't be as sweltering as last week, another heat wave will head our way. As the workweek begins, we will see cooler temperatures than we did last week. There will be a mixture of some sun and clouds with the high reaching the mid-80s. On Tuesday, there will be partly sunny skies with warm temperatures in the high-80s. There is also a chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm so keep an umbrella handy later in the day. By mid-week, the temperature will rise to the low-90s. There will be plenty of sunshine throughout the day with wind gusts nearing 20 mph. This will be the beginning of the next heat wave, as the heat index…

A prolonged heat wave is approaching with the heat index reaching triple digits later in the week
A heat wave officially begins when temperatures rise to 90 degrees or above for at least three consecutive days. This week, we will have no trouble meeting those criteria as sizzling temperatures spread our way and settle over our area. As the workweek begins, we will see partly sunny skies with hot temperatures in the low-90s. When you factor in the humidity, it will feel as through it is 92 degrees outside. Along with the heat and humidity comes the chance of an evening thunderstorm. On Tuesday, we will see a mixture of sun and clouds. Hot and humid temperatures will continue with temperatures reaching the low-90s again but the heat index will reach near 95 degrees. By midweek, there will be mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching …
