Most recently, portion of fence was removed for juveniles to gain access
Police recently responded to the Gille Skate Park for a report of juveniles trespassing inside. At approximately 3 p.m., Feb. 15, Officer Darrell Nick arrived at the skate park, which was unoccupied. It was discovered that the southwest corner of the skate park’s fence was damaged. A section of the fence was removed, allowing access into the skate park. The approximate cost of the damage is $50. In May 2012, the township Committee voted to have the skate park monitored and opened seasonally because kids were violating the rules. An ordinance was also passed requiring Lacey residents to purchase a photo identification card from the Recreation Office to utilize the skate park. Despite the threat of rain, Lacey Day draws a big crowd.
The forecast called for rain all Saturday afternoon. However, despite some ominous dark clouds, the weather held up for most of the 2012 Lacey Day. “The weather always cooperates with us for Lacey Day,” Mayor Mark Dykoff said. “There has been a really great turnout today.” According to Mayor Dykoff, Lacey Day started years ago as a carnival, and as time went on it became quite expensive. The day has been scaled down to the event that was presented today. Food was donated by Walmart and Shop Rite and supplies donated by Home Depot. “Today is about bringing the community together,” he said. “Getting to know the local organizations around Lacey.” Senator Joe Kyrillos stopped by Lacey Day and said it is one the best festivals in the area. “…

The employee has been monitoring the park for about one month now. “Kids are starting to listen.” The skate park will now be opened from April 16 to Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. A monitor is staffed at the park and kids are required to purchase and present a photo identification card. Residents show concern that the skate park might be shut down as it has been chained closed
Adam Kochanowski sat on a bench across from the Gille Skate Park on Wednesday afternoon, reminiscing the years when he spent time there daily. Kochanowski, 14, was concerned over recent rumors that the skate park would be shut down. “I used to be here every day in Lacey,” he said. The former Lacey resident and current Point Pleasant resident believes the problem lays with bikes. The bikers didn’t cause problems, Kochanowski said, but according to skate park rules, bikes and scooters are prohibited and police occasionally monitor the area. “They’ve been saying they’re going to close it down for a while,” he said. “It always reopens.” Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh could not elaborate on the skate park before the township committee…
