Districts Find Drug Testing Useful 'Tool for Intervention'

Lacey considering implementation of policy already in place at districts around the state.

A random drug testing policy is still being developed at the Lacey Township School District, and other districts with pre-existing programs have said implementation is “worthwhile.” Lacey is mapping out a plan to randomly drug test high school students who participate in extracurricular activities and those who hold a parking permit. In February, the Lacey administration said it was preparing to propose the random drug testing program to the Board of Education for a first reading of a policy in April with implementation for the 2013-14 school year. “The policy is still in development, and there will be another announcement for a (community forum) after spring break,” Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower said. The Lacey school district is preparing to propose the random drug testing program to the Board of Education for a first reading of a policy in April with implementation for the 2013-14 school year. “This is a very controversial topic because people have taken a position already with regards to how they feel,” Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower said at the second forum on the random drug testing program Tuesday night. Many school districts are doing it becasue they blindly accept absurdly irrational judicial decisions. They refuse to acknowledge that the reasoning given by the court flatly contradicts the plain language of the Amendment . Second Forum on District's Random Drug Testing Slated for Feb. 5

A symposium, "Raising and Educating a Drug Free Community," will also be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27

A second community forum on the random drug testing program that the school district is considering will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in the High School Media Center. Earlier this month, the school board held its first forum in which school staff presented research and answered questions that concerned residents had regarding the program that the district is aiming to start in the fall of 2013. “It’s a shame that the district even has to consider this but it’s time,” resident Regina Discenza said at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, adding that drug use is rampant in Lacey Township. Q&A: School District Provides Answers on Random Drug Testing Program

After the school district's first community forum on its potential random drug testing program, a Q&A was developed to provide information for unanswered questions. School employees, parents and members of the community met on Jan. 8 at the Lacey High School Media Center to discuss questions. The answers are grouped by topics below.
