First time candidate Gary Vaccaro shared his campaign goals and thoughts on the future of Oyster Creek Generating Station
Democrat Gary Vaccaro is pushing for a “new voice” in Lacey Township. As a first time candidate for township committee, Vaccaro shared his ideas and fielded questions at a town hall meeting on Wednesday night. “The reason I’m running is, I think we have a great town here,” Vacarro said. “I love Lacey Township…There are a lot of great attributes but over the past couple years I’ve been becoming very concerned about the direction the township is heading.” Economically, Vaccaro noted that taxes continue to rise, furloughs have been proposed, there has been a reduction of services, and no responsible planning by the majority party. “Secondly, I’ve seen the anger and frustration in people due to a lack of transparency and I think we need to …

Due to financial restraints, the committee was unanimously opposed to housing a Mass Casualty Unit
As the township committee unanimously stated that Lacey does not receive its fair share of homeland security funds, Chief Bob Resetar of the Lanoka Harbor EMS Squad questioned why it would turn down a Mass Casualty Unit. “They just turned down $340,000 worth of homeland security that could have helped the residents of this town as well as the surrounding county because it would be a county resource,” Resetar said. The Lanoka Harbor EMS Squad had planned to apply for a Mass Casualty Unit, two years after they began participating in the NJ EMS Task Force but the township committee turned the application down. Six members of the LHEMS are currently trained under the Task Force, which is a consortium of paid and volunteer EMS providers from …

In anticipation for another year of budget cuts, the committee waives their salaries
The Lacey Township Committee chose to waive its salaries once again at last week’s committee meeting. As a result of the limited budget last year, the committee also chose to waive its benefits. “This year, we’re really not in much different shape as far as the overall revenue goes and the shortfalls…If we are going to be putting our staff in a situation where they’re going to have to sacrifice again and cut from their departments, then we should set the example and sacrifice and give up our salaries for another year,” Mayor Gary Quinn said. Each committee member has a salary of $7,000 plus health benefits, although new committee members are not permitted to receive health benefits under legislation passed by Governor Chris Christie. The …

CORRECTION--- BOB RESETAR, NOT BRIAN Forked River Fire has already received 3 grants this year, the last time Lanoka Harbor EMS received a grant was 2006. One of FRFD's grants required the Township's financial obligation to be approximately $12,500. This would be minimal in comparison and a far more inclusive resource!-- again, not trying to belittle FRFD's progress. The township thinks that when…   more ›
