After a two month investigations, Lacey Police charged Kenneth Stauton in connection to the Jan. 16 death of a 27-year-old Lacey man

A Forked River man was charged in connection with the heroin overdose death of a 27-year-old Lacey man, Capt. David Paprota said in a news release. Kenneth Stauton, 33, was charged with the first-degree crime of strict liability for a drug-induced death. The police will always charge one with the highest possible crime regardless because it gives prosecution and courts options and room to iron out the final outcome in court. I personally believe that heroin use is a choice people make knowing the risks and Yah the dealer should be charged with distribution but its not the courts right to hold him accountable for the death. Nobody put a gun to his…   more ›

'Dedicated,' 'Conscientious' Lacey Officer Promoted to Sergeant [Video]

Vincent Meehan was the first to be promoted within the Lacey Township Police Department in eight years

The walls were lined with Lacey policemen and a standing ovation erupted, as Vincent Meehan was sworn in as sergeant. The promotion, which has been more than six years in the making, was approved at the township Committee meeting Thursday. “We are all proud of Sergeant Meehan and know that he will do a great job. He has proven to be a dedicated and conscientious worker from the day he started 18 years ago,” Capt. David Paprota said, adding that of those 18 years, Meehan has never called out sick. To become a sergeant, an individual on the police force has to serve three years as an officer, Paprota said. The state runs a statewide test for sergeant every three years. A list is produced based on scores and the township considers whom to …

Lacey Township has placed an advertisement with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities for a public safety director to lead the Police Department, although a decision has yet to be made regarding which direction the Committee will choose to replace retired Chief of Police William Nally, Mayor David Most said. “We’re looking at options right now. We’re doing due diligence. We have the opportunity where a chief retired. We’ll use the vetting process, and we’ll do what’s good for Lacey Township,” Most said. Public safety director is just an “option,” and the township will be interviewing potential candidates, Most said. “We’re just seeing the latest and greatest and what’s working and what’s not working.
