A nine-year-old Lacey girl suffering from a form of cancer received a themed party at St. Pius the Tenth Parish
A young Lacey Township girl was the recipient of a surprise medieval tea party at St. Pius the Tenth Parish in Lacey on Sunday afternoon, one given by a legion of well-wishers, volunteers, friends and family members. At the center of the event was Anastasia “Ana” Kopack, 9, who is afflicted with rhabdomyosarcoma – a type of cancer, which attaches itself to muscular tissue in the human body. Ana was diagnosed with this relatively rare disease back on March 28 of this year, according to her mother Fran Kopack. Event coordinator Cathy Rapsas, of Lacey Township, said that Ana is a fourth-grade student at Lanoka Harbor Elementary School and the purpose of the day was to lift her spirits. “Battling cancer is devastating in every possible way, …

The Burning Stage Theatre Company presented a show at the Captain's Inn
There was a packed house in the banquet room of the Captain's Inn as the Burning Stage Theatre Company presented a murder mystery dinner theater. The local theatre company performed “Murder Me Always” by Lee Mueller. The play was interactive, as the performers invited the audience to participate in the mystery. Director Brian Stike was thrilled to see so many people come out to support the theatre in Lacey. The theatre company will be performing at Lacey Day on Saturday, Aug. 13.

Goal is to offer professional-quality theater by local talent
With a mission to create “provocative, meaningful theatre in the Lacey Township community, utilizing the talents of local residents,” the Burning Stage Theatre Company was launched last fall by Brian Stike, Lacey Township High School’s Theater Director. Recruiting recent graduates of his high school program, Stike said the company’s first production was a holiday show on the LTHS stage, for which 500 tickets were sold. “I hope that this takes off because our community is ready,” said Stike, who serves as the company‘s artistic director. “It‘s going to be entertaining and will showcase the talent of some of Lacey‘s finest.” Stike, who started at LTHS as the band director 12 years ago, moved to Theater Director in 2005 when the high school …
