Recreation Department Waives Fees for Remaining Fall Programs

The Lacey Recreation Department has waived fees for several programs to help those recovering from Hurricane Sandy

The Lacey Recreation Department has waived fees for several programs to help those recovering from Hurricane Sandy. “We waived the fees for a couple of our programs to allow people some much needed stress relief during the rebuilding stage after the storm,” Recreation Director Jim Wioland said. There are four fitness programs that are finishing up this season, that residents can jump into for free. Just bring the attached flyer. Below are a list and description of the programs:  Power Yoga-Pilates Athletic based yoga poses combined with Joseph Pilates body slimming and core exercises. All levels welcome. Mill Pond Students Find Their Inner Light

A yoga instructor teaches the sixth grade students trust, communication, respect and balance as part of the ancient South Asian curriculum

Sixth grade students started their school day in complete serenity as they learned how to inhale and exhale through a yoga class as part of their ancient South Asian curriculum. “This is our second year doing this,” social studies teacher Susan Adams said. “This is an extension activity taking the ancient practice of yoga and incorporating it into modern day.” The sixth grade recently completed their South Asian unit in ancient civilization, she said. A focus of the curriculum is the study of yoga and the religion of Hinduism. “With each unit, we always try to bring in art or another way to engage them other than just using the books,” Adams said. “It gives them an appreciation for it and makes it more exciting.” Mary Flynn, a registered …

They can teach our kids about Hinduism and have them practice yoga in school, but the kids can't start their school day off with 5 minutes of prayer if they wanted to.. Hmmm...   more ›
