Township recently submitted a briefing schedule to the court
The township is still caught up in litigation with White Castle, most recently submitting a briefing schedule to the court, Planning Board Attorney Joseph Coronato said. “There really has been no attempt to settle it,” Coronato said at Lacey’s latest Planning Board meeting. It was announced that White Castle sued the township for the restrictions the Planning Board placed on its hours of operation in September. White Castle’s application was approved to be built at the intersection of Route 9 and Sunrise Boulevard but rather than being open 24-hours, as the company had sought, the Planning Board restricted the hours of operation to 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. The Planning Board previously cited a 24-hour operation as being disruptive to the community…

Unhappy with the hour restrictions the Planning Board imposed on the fast food restaurant, White Castle has sued the township
White Castle has sued Lacey Township for the restrictions the Planning Board placed on its hours of operation. White Castle’s application was approved to be built at the intersection of Route 9 and Sunrise Boulevard but rather than being open 24-hours, as the company had sought, the Planning Board restricted the hours of operation to 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. “The board did what’s best for the local area,” Committeeman and Planning Board member Gary Quinn said. “We stand by the decision we made.” The Planning Board previously cited a 24-hour operation as being disruptive to the community. “It’s important to the town. It’s important to the residents and it has worked well with other fast food restaurants,” Quinn said in June, when the application …

Planning Board meeting begins at the Lacey Township Municipal Building at 7 p.m.
The application for Lakeside Plaza, a shopping center that if approved would be built on Route 9 and Lakeside Drive South, will be before the Planning Board for a public hearing at 7 p.m. this evening. The township Planning Board deemed the application technically complete in May. The shopping center would be built behind the Applebee’s on Route 9. It will include three retail stores, three restaurants and Retro Fitness. The applicant is proposing to construct and maintain approximately 81,506 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The preliminary plans for the shopping center included a retail shopping center, an unnamed anchor building containing 5,8735 square feet and six retail stores for a total of 69,984 square feet. It also …

The application was approved with cross access to Sunrise Plaza and store only will be open from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m. rather than 24 hours
The Planning Board approved the White Castle application by a vote of 7-1 Monday night. “I feel that it would have a significant effect on traffic, impact the quality of life in Lacey and contribute to safety problems,” said Vice Chairman Charles Wood, the lone vote in opposition. The application was approved with cross access to Sunrise Plaza, and the store only will be open from 6 a.m. until 1 a.m. rather than 24 hours. While an entrance and exit to Sunrise Boulevard remains, an ingress to Sunrise Plaza will be on the west side of the property and an egress lane will be on the east. The applicant was unable to get approval from the state Department of Transportation for its own entrance and exit on Route 9. An application has been …

Board says cross access to Sunrise Plaza will be a 'major key' to the project; White Castle will return for the June meeting
The Planning Board tabled the White Castle application until June after the engineer agreed to do a traffic study of the intersection of Route 9 and Sunrise Boulevard, the proposed location of the restaurant, during Memorial Day Weekend. With its only entrance and exit on Sunrise Boulevard, the applicant is proposing to make road improvements. An application has been submitted to the state Department of Transportation to widen Sunrise Boulevard on the White Castle frontage to increase access to the right turn lane. The middle lane would be converted to a dual through lane and a left turn lane. The application also seeks to change the timing of the traffic signal. “If people look at the changes to that intersection that we’re going to …

The public hearing for White Castle will be held at the township Municipal Building on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m.
The township Planning Board carried the White Castle application to May after Dynamic Engineering failed to show up. More than one dozen residents came to the Municipal Building to hear the White Castle public hearing. The application was deemed complete in March. “I’m very mad about this. We live in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood,” Nancy Kelm said. “It’s going to bring riff raff. I would like to see it not happen." Kelm went on to say that more fast food restaurants in town would be “disgusting, troublesome and just a nightmare.” White Castle will replace an existing dwelling at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and North Main Street. The fast food restaurant originally appeared before the board several years ago, Board Engineer …

Public hearing to take place at the Municipal Building at 7 p.m.
An application for White Castle will be in front of the Planning Board at 7 p.m. for a public hearing. The application was deemed technically complete earlier in March. “I’m not digging that,” said Katie Bonacolta of Big League Barbers, a hair salon located at Sunrise Plaza, which is right next to the site where White Castle will be located. Although the fast food restaurant most likely won’t have a long-term effect on business, traffic will be impacted, she said. “Maybe it will be a little like Sonic (in Waretown),” she said. There was a boost in business for a short time after Sonic was built. “Traffic is just going to get worse.” White Castle will replace an existing dwelling at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and North Main …

I live her in Forked River, i love this town and wonder why anyone would want to stop a good reputable business from wanting to come here and bring jobs and tax dollars to town. I am even more baffled as to why the board made the decision they made, even if all of the 60 people spoke against White Castle being open 24 hours. They should have made their decision based upon the law and the facts. …   more ›
