Most recently, portion of fence was removed for juveniles to gain access
Police recently responded to the Gille Skate Park for a report of juveniles trespassing inside. At approximately 3 p.m., Feb. 15, Officer Darrell Nick arrived at the skate park, which was unoccupied. It was discovered that the southwest corner of the skate park’s fence was damaged. A section of the fence was removed, allowing access into the skate park. The approximate cost of the damage is $50. In May 2012, the township Committee voted to have the skate park monitored and opened seasonally because kids were violating the rules. An ordinance was also passed requiring Lacey residents to purchase a photo identification card from the Recreation Office to utilize the skate park. The skate park now operates from April through October and is …

Residents will be required to purchase a photo ID to use the skate park
The Township Committee passed the ordinance that would require Lacey residents to purchase a photo identification card from the Recreation Office to utilize the skate park at Gille Park. In March the committee voted to have the skate park monitored and opened seasonally because kids were violating the rules. “It’s working,” said a skate park monitor who declined to provide a name. The employee has been monitoring the park for about one month now. “Kids are starting to listen.” The skate park will now be opened from April 16 to Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m. A monitor is staffed at the park and kids are required to purchase and present a photo identification card. The IDs would be available for purchase at the township …

Township hopes to prevent improper use of skating facility through ID card system
It was recently reported that after a vote from the Township Committee, the recently reopened Gille Skate Park will be open seasonally through the fall, and its upkeep be maintained through the use of appointed monitors. However, another proviso that will soon be a requirement of using the park is an identification card system, according to Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh — one that the township hopes will keep the park in as pristine condition as possible. “Currently, we're doing well (at the park). We've had our moments, but we're doing well. It's a much better situation there now,” Recreation Director Jim Wioland added. Gille Skate Park is currently open from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. After June 30, the park will …

Committee: "The kids are out of control"
The Gille Skate Park will reopen by Monday, April 16 after the township committee voted to keep the park open seasonally with a monitor. “We’ve had a lot of issues over the past couple years with the use and the upkeep of the skate park in addition to the equipment that’s being used there,” township Administrator Veronica Laureigh said. The skate park will now be opened from April 16 to Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A summer recreation employee will staff the park and kids will be required to purchase and present a $5 ID. Bikes and scooters will continue to be prohibited but skaters will only be required to wear helmets. When the Skate Park was developed for $237,000 in 2006, it was only equipped for inline skates and …
