Warrant, shoplifting and DUI arrests
Police are warning the community of a possible telephone fraud after a Lacey resident received a letter in the mail from someone posing as a bank, police said. The victim reported that she received a letter on March 3 from “Comenity” Bank, instead of Community Bank, in Ohio, police said. The letter indicated that her PacSun credit card application was denied and included the phone number 866-668-5450 to call for questions. The victim contacted the number and she was told she was a “victim of identity theft.” She provided the person on the phone with her personal information, including date of birth and social security number, police said. She later contacted Equifax, a consumer credit reporting agency, and informed them of the incident. …

Warrant, shoplifting and DUI arrests
Police arrested a repeat offender after they were dispatched to the Lacey Middle School on report of an alarm activation. Officer Andrew Slota arrested Michael Cannito, 20, of Forked River shortly before midnight on March 11. Slota was dispatched to the middle school when the alarm was activated, police said. While inspecting the school, the officer spotted Cannito walking through the school’s parking lot. The officer made an inquiry regarding Cannito’s presence at the school, police said. It was then discovered that Cannito had three no bail Ocean County warrants. Cannito was arrested and transported to the Ocean County Jail. A Barnegat woman was arrested after police were summoned to Walmart for an uncooperative shoplifter, police said. Carol McCall, 36, was being detained by store security when police arrived at the scene on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. McCall allegedly attempted to exit Walmart with a shopping cart containing more than $575 worth of merchandise. McCall was charged with shoplifting and transported to Ocean County Jail with bail set at $10,000, with no 10 percent option. Jessica Bozarth was sent to Ocean County Jail with bail set at $15,000
Police claim a Barnegat woman used a young boy to help her shoplift items from Walmart. Police responded to the Lacey superstore at approximately 5 p.m. on May 29 when Jessica Bozarth, 28, was being detained on suspicion of shoplifting. Subsequent investigation found that Bozarth, while shopping with an 8-year old and 6-year old male, placed $350.20 worth of merchandise in a shopping cart, police said. The merchandise included two tower fans, a dehumidifier and one Barbie Party Camper Playset. Under Bozarth’s direction, the shopping cart was then pushed out of the store by one of the juvenile males, police said. Since 2009, Lacey police have responded to 1,579 calls to big box stores; 170 of which were for shoplifting
With a rise in burglaries and drug arrests, the township also has seen an increase in police responses to big box stores with a total of 1,579 for just Walmart, Home Depot, Kohl’s and Staples since 2009. “I still think that the big boxes have all impacted positively on the township,” Mayor Mark Dykoff said. “You have to look at the convenience it brings to the residents.” Many weekly police incident reports have been dominated by shoplifting calls made to Walmart. But the 1,579 police calls include everything from traffic accidents, motor vehicle stops and municipal ordinance violations to criminal mischief, juvenile problems, suspicious motor vehicles, theft and fraud. Warrant also issued for Lanoka Harbor man's wife
Toms River Police arrested a Lacey Township man charging him with second-degree robbery after a shoplifting incident at the Kohl's department store on Route 37 turned violent. Douglas Dunsmuir, 45, of 707 Hazelton Avenue, in the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey Township, was arrested in the incident that occurred just before 9 a.m. on Thursday. Police responded to the store after a report that two people were observed stealing over $2,000 worth of jewelry. A Lacey woman allegedly stole over $200 in makeup related products
A Lanoka Harbor woman was arrested for allegedly shoplifting from the Lacey Walmart. Evelyn Policastro, 47, of Lanoka Harbor was arrested at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 after she was detained by store security. Policastro allegedly shoplifted $216.29 of makeup related items from Walmart. The stolen merchandise was returned to the store. She was transported to the Lacey Township Police Department and was released on a summons.

Little Egg Harbor man allegedly shoplifted two DVD's
A Little Egg Harbor resident was arrested at the Lacey Walmart after he allegedly shoplifted from the store. Timothy Morrison, Jr., 25, was arrested at approximately 7:43 p.m. on Aug. 11 after police responded to Walmart for an alleged shoplifter being detained by store security. Morrison was arrested for shoplifting two DVD’s, valued at $40, police said. He was charged with one count of shoplifting and transported to the Lacey Township Police Department where he was processed and released.
