Former New England Patriot Jarvis Green and ShopRite served a holiday dinner to Ocean County residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy
There was a sense of holiday cheer at the Lacey United Methodist Church as opposed to the downcast that Hurricane Sandy has left on those displaced, as they were served a dinner by ShopRite volunteers and former New England Patriot Jarvis Green. Dottie, who declined to provide her last name, held hands with Denise Vacarro as she cried over the devastation of the superstorm and the generosity of volunteers. “It’s overwhelming,” Vacarro said. Vacarro was standing in her yard crying as she took in the damage caused by Sandy when Dottie and a friend — total strangers at the time — pulled up to her Beach Boulevard house and offered help. The van will be at the ShopRite Plaza in Waretown beginning Friday for dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The American Red Cross will be setting up a van for hot food pick up, blankets and cleaning supplies at the ShopRite Plaza in Waretown. The van will be available on Friday, Nov. 9 for dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. as well as Saturday, Nov. 10 through Monday, Nov. 12. Lunch will be served from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Dinner is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. ShopRite is located at 501 Route 9 in Waretown. The Waretown Methodist Church is also offering assistance. ShopRite held their seventh annual charity softball game to raise money for the Relay for Life.
ShopRite takes on Policemen's Benevolent Association 238 during the seventh annual charity softball game. All proceeds benefit the Relay for Life.

Forked River man charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of heroin and more
A Forked River man was arrested and faces multiple charges after he allegedly snatched a purse from a woman at ShopRite and charged more than $1,000 to her credit cards, police officials said. William Hoefsloot, Jr., 34, stole a pocketbook from the shopping cart of a 66-year-old Forked River female on March 13. The purse contained approximately $200, credit cards, gift cards and personal identification. Patrolman Darrell Nick responded to the scene and worked with ShopRite security to find the culprit. After checking with the victim’s credit card companies, Nick found that two fraudulent transactions were made at the Walmart in Lanoka Harbor. The purchases included a 52” Sanyo television and a Play Station III. The total cost of the two …
