Township Committee 'pressures' school board to reduce tax levy, which would increase taxes approximately $300 for the average homeowner
A presentation on the school district’s 2013-14 budget, which increases taxes approximately $300 for the average homeowner, will be made at the school board meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. Earlier in March, the board approved its preliminary school district budget with a 4.9 percent increase in the local tax levy. The proposed $65,378,595 spending plan calls for a $42,065,051 tax levy. The average homeowner, assessed at $316,000, will pay $25 more in taxes per month if the 2013-14 budget is approved as is. “We’ve been pressuring the school board to take and reduce that number,” Committeeman Gary Quinn said at Thursday’s Committee meeting. School board will hold special meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 4
The Board of Education is holding a special meeting on Monday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school Lecture Hall for the submission of the 2013-14 preliminary budget to the Ocean County Superintendent of Schools. Last week, Gov. Chris Christie announced that Lacey schools would receive $87,278 more in state funding than they did in 2012-13. While Lacey received $20,972,424 in state aid in the 2012-13 year, the district will receive $21,059,702 in 2013-14. This is a 0.4 percent increase. Quinn and Dykoff to continue service on governing body; Tirella and Schubiger to stay on school board
Lacey incumbents retained all contested seats Tuesday, according to unofficial election results provided by Office of the Ocean County Clerk. Committeeman Gary Quinn and Mayor Mark Dykoff each earned three-year terms after fending off a challenge from Democratic newcomer Shawn Judson. Quinn picked up 7,783 votes or 39 percent while Dykoff received 7,568 votes or 38 percent of the votes. Judson got 4,389 votes or 22 percent. Voters elected current school board Vice President Eric Schubiger and incumbent Maureen Tirella to new terms on the Board of Education in a close race over resident Regina Discenza.
