Lacey's Second Art Show to be Held April 5

Young artists will have their work on display and for sale

The Lacey Township Recreation Department is hosting its second Students of Joszie Art Show on Friday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at Community Hall. The art show will display the work of student artists who worked under the guidance and instruction of professional artist Joszie, who works with oil, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, combinations and other mix medias. Art enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the art show where student’s masterpieces that were created during the course will be displayed and for sale. Admission to the show is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. This will be Lacey’s second art show. Recreation Department Accepting Registration for Spring Senior Citizen Day Trips

Trips range from $6 to $36

The Lacey Township Recreation Department is currently taking registration for its spring senior citizen day trips: For each trip, lunch is on your own unless otherwise stated. Residents can register for these programs at the Recreation Office, 818 Lacey Road, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Registration is taken on a first come, first served basis and all checks should be made payable to Lacey Township. Registration Underway for Winter Recreation Programs

A program for toddlers and their parents as well as those interested in art are being offered

The Lacey Township Recreation Department is taking registration for its winter programs. Jump Start Description: Parents and their child will share in fun activities that prepare children for Kindergarten in a pre-school environment. Under the guidance of a certified elementary school teacher Bethann Barneman, the program focuses on good listening skills taught through music and storytelling, letter and number recognition, shapes, colors, phonics and cooperative learning. Recreation Department Waives Fees for Remaining Fall Programs

The Lacey Recreation Department has waived fees for several programs to help those recovering from Hurricane Sandy

The Lacey Recreation Department has waived fees for several programs to help those recovering from Hurricane Sandy. “We waived the fees for a couple of our programs to allow people some much needed stress relief during the rebuilding stage after the storm,” Recreation Director Jim Wioland said. There are four fitness programs that are finishing up this season, that residents can jump into for free. Just bring the attached flyer. Recreation Department Accepting Registration for Fall Kayaking Program

Paddle through the Barnegat Bay on Saturday, Sept. 29

The Recreation Department is currently taking registration for its fall recreation programs, including kayaking for all ages. The Forked River Outdoor Group (FROG) leads the kayaking program. The group will venture out for a couple hours paddling around the Barnegat Bay. The guided tour is designed for all levels. The meeting location will be at the Cedar Creek Beach and is offered Saturday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the program is $25 per person, which includes the boat rental and a personal flotation device. Students 14 and under are $15. Recreation Grant Will Make Programs 'Seamless' for Individuals With Disabilities

Township Recreation Department receives $10,000 Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities Grant

The Lacey Township Recreation Department has received $10,000 from the state for recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, Director James Wioland said. The grant, which was provided by the Department of Community Affairs, will help make Lacey programs “seamless,” Wioland said. “It allows us to use the money to make accommodations or to help offset the cost where we’re providing programs for people with disabilities,” he said. This is the first year Wioland has applied for and received the grant for Lacey Township, although he has had previous experience from his previous recreation position in Cherry Hill. “We’re an inclusive department. We don’t turn anyone away,” he said, adding that the grant will provide additional …

Registration Now Available for Summer Camps

Residents can register for the Summer in the Parks program in person or at the camp sites on Thursday, June 21

The Lacey Township Recreation Department is taking registration for its summer recreation programs. For the Summer in the Parks program children will play sports, listen to stories, arts and crafts, create games and use park equipment. The camp features theme and movie days as well as fun trips to local destinations. Three sites are offered this year—Clune Park, Huffy Wallis Park and Hebrew Park. Participants, five and older to start the program and seven to attend trips, will be supervised at each location by trained staff. The program will run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for seven weeks starting Monday, June 25. The cost for the program is $100 per child for the summer. GALLERY: Lacey Dazzles With Fireworks Display

Residents enjoy an Independence Day celebration on Tuesday

Although Lacey's firework show did not have as many attendees as usual, residents enjoyed a belated Independence Day celebration Tuesday at Lacey Township High School. Rob Larsen provided the music with a mix of pop and patriotic tunes. The Lacey Police Department, Lanoka Harbor Fire Department, and the Lanoka Harbor EMS were on hand to provide emergency coverage. The show started shortly after 9 p.m. and lasted about 15 minutes.
