NJ Transit Offers 'Early Getaway' Service for Memorial Day Weekend

In addition to extra trains and buses, two children can ride free with each fare-paying adult.

  NJ Transit will be offering extra trains and buses to patrons leaving work early Friday for Memorial Day weekend, according to a press release Monday.  Extra outbound trains will operate on the North Jersey Coast line, which extends into Point Pleasant Beach and ends at Bay Head; the Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley, Morris and Essex and Port Jervis lines, starting around 1 p.m. Additional buses will also be operating from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on over three dozen bus routes starting around noon, according to NJ Transit.   On Memorial Day, trains will operated on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines, according to NJ Transit. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule, Newark Light Rail will operate …

Alex's Inlet Bait and Tackle counting on fundraiser to stay open

  For Marc Palazzolo, owner of Alex's Inlet Bait and Tackle in Point Pleasant Beach, the government's promise to help Sandy-ravaged businesses is just a fish tale. So he's relying on his friends and customers to help him keep his bait and tackle shop afloat on Inlet Drive, where Sandy sent the ocean barrelling into homes and businesses, leaving a soggy heap of debris and financial ruin in its wake. Five months later, Palazzolo, like so many other business owners at the Jersey Shore, is still struggling to open for good. Easter Egg Hunt, Parade, Rides and More on Point Beach Boardwalk

Events at Martell's and Jenkinson's today and tomorrow

  There will be an Easter egg hunt, an Easter parade, discount ticket sales, rides, games and more on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach this weekend. The free egg hunt will be at Martell's beach on Saturday. Those who wish to participate should arrive by 10:30 a.m. to register in time for the 11 a.m. start. There will also be two local face painters coming from Party Central in Point Beach. (See attached PDF for details.) At 1 p.m. Sunday, there will be an Easter parade on the boardwalk in front of Jenkinson's. Also, the annual two-for-one Jenkinson's ride ticket sales started Friday and continue through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. on the boardwalk and online.

  Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help the Monmouth and Ocean victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Officials hoping project will begin this summer from Manasquan to Barnegat inlets

Oceanfront homeowners between Manasquan and Barnegat inlets are being urged to sign easements necessary for a beach renourishment project to get off the ground by May 1, officials said Thursday. U.S. Rep Jon Runyan (R-3) wrote to the mayors of a number of northern Ocean County municipalities this week urging them to secure all necessary easements for the massive dune and beach project by May 1, the date the Army Corps of Engineers must submit a work plan to Congress. The project's design – which would include the construction of approximately 25-foot high dunes, 75 foot wide berms and 175 acres of dune grass in the project area – was completed in 2007, but has languished after some oceanfront homeowners refused to sign easements that would…

A candlelight vigil for the victims of the Connecticut shooting victims will be held from 8 to about 9 p.m. today at the fisherman's memorial on Inlet Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. The vigil will be held rain or shine at the memorial at Loughran's Point on the Point Pleasant Beach side of the Manasquan Inlet and residents from all towns are welcome, said Kiel Arnone, a Point Pleasant Borough resident who is coordinating the event. All participants are asked to bring their own candles and any donations of candles from businesses will be greatly appreciated, Arnone said. Despite Gov's Assurance, Thousands Still in the Dark

Christie said all power in NJ would be restored by now

  Despite assurances by Gov. Christie that the entire state would have power again by yesterday, there are thousands still in the dark in New Jersey, including 601 in just Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to the JCP&L outage map. As of 3:15 p.m. Monday, there are 441 outages in Monmouth and 160 in Ocean and about 3,100 outages among JCP&L customers in the 13 counties it serves, the map shows. In Morris County alone there are 739 JCP&L customers reporting outages. PSE&G has 278 outages on Monday afternoon, including 19 outages caused by Sandy and 259 caused by the nor'easter. Atlantic Electric has restored power to all customers who can safely be restored, said Frank Tedesco, company spokesman. He said there are 2,000 to 2,500 …
