Sandy Cleanup Worker Dies After Being Hit by Car in Brick

Princeton Avenue accident that killed Long Branch man is under investigation

A Long Branch man working in Brick to clean up debris left by Superstorm Sandy was struck and killed by a car Friday morning on Princeton Avenue, police said. The accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. Friday, as Paul Friedauer, 69, entered the roadway approximately 1,200 feet west of Beaver Dam Road to stop traffic as cleanup operations continued, said Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian. He was struck by 2004 Nissan Pathfinder SUV being driven by Karl P. Scheufler, 42, of Brick. Friedauer – who was working for the Glenside Equipment Company of Jackson – was propelled 125 feet due to the impact of the crash.
