But violators face only a disorderly person's charge
Gun owners who live with minors are required to keep guns locked or secured, but face only a potential disorderly person's offense if they are found guilty of violating that law, according to a copy of a state statute. Marine Fisheries Council makes decision on annual regulations
New Jersey's 2013 recreational summer flounder fishery will open May 18 and run through Sept. 16, the state Marine Fisheries Council decided Thursday. The council chose one option out of several presented, which all complied with management quotas determined by federal fisheries agencies. The size limit will remain at 17.5 inches, the same as in 2012, and anglers will be able to keep five fish per day. The council had the option of extending the season for a longer period into the fall, though anglers would have had to contend with an 18 inch minimum size limit. Tonight's commute will be "treacherous," says state Police and Emergency Management
The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the National Weather Service, is monitoring a major coastal storm expected to impact the state today and tomorrow. State emergency management officials anticipate coastal flooding, high wind conditions, snow, sleet, and even blizzard conditions in the northeast corner of the state, according to a prepared statement from state Emergency Management. Huffington Post reports that Flying Fish Brewery Company is ready to give Hurricane Sandy a big F.U. with "F. U. Sandy," a hybrid wheat-pale ale inspired by the storm. What the first devestating week looked like from my Mantoloking Road vantage point
It’s been a week since Hurricane Sandy hit and like many others, we still have no electricity at my house off Mantoloking Road. Our neighborhood is humming with the sound of generators, but I’ve been worried about the silent households ever since the temperatures dropped. In the past week, I (like you) have seen a lot, starting with a house strewn in the middle of Gale Road. A homeowner there said it washed across the bay and through the marsh onto his low lying street—a street that still reeked of diesel fuel on Thursday. Homeowners were shoveling thick, smelly muck from their driveways like it was snow that day. They thanked me for stopping and listening, even though that’s all I did. Due to weather conditions, Ocean County College in Toms River is closed Monday and Tuesday. Also, Georgian Court University, in Lakewood, and Brookdale Community College, in Middletown, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. "If possible, residents should vacate on Sunday," Georgian Court states on its website. Monmouth University is also closed Monday and Tuesday. Ocean County College officials said they will decide tomorrow whether to close. The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Atlantic Cape Community College are closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We’ve included communities across New Jersey, so if you want to see what the campaign contributions in nearby towns are like, go right ahead. The information in the database was downloaded from the Federal Election Commission’s website. The data is based on quarterly reports, and is current through July. The data will be updated in mid-October.

Mild temperatures send anglers into action
There's no doubt I'm a bit late to the party this year. History holds that my boat is often one of the first in the marina and, almost always, the last boat to be hauled out. Jingle Bell Rock has played from the speakers mounted in my center console. But this year, my fishing season has yet to begin. I have a tentative appointment with my boat hauler in Barnegat to drop her in the water Monday, but that's after a spring where some busy work weeks here at Patch and marathon rounds of graduate school studying have pushed fishing to the back burner.
