A gathering of family and friends will be held at Riggs Funeral Home at 3 p.m. until the services at 5:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held for Dan DiFabio on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Riggs Funeral Home. DiFabio, 18, was pronounced dead at his Forked River home on Tuesday. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been released. DiFabio was a Lacey Township High School senior and was on the wrestling team, according to his obituary. He was a member of the Junk Yard Motocross Crew, American Motocross Association, enjoyed weight lifting and the Barnegat Bay. Born in Toms River, DiFabio was a lifetime Lacey Township resident. Dear Parents and Guardians, On Tuesday, Dec. 18, we learned that a member of our senior class, Daniel DiFabio, died at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with the DiFabio family and we extend our deepest heartfelt sympathies. Today at school each teacher read a short message in homeroom. Guidance counselors and our mental health professionals were available throughout the day to talk with students who knew Dan and those who may have had a difficult time dealing with this very sad news. Private and group sessions were available as well as quiet places for students to be with friends. Counseling services are extended until 8 p.m. this evening. You always had a smile on your face and you always made everyone smile and laugh around you,” Tina Monbleau said on Facebook. The Lacey Township High School senior was pronounced dead at his Forked River home Tuesday. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been released. Monbleau continued to call DiFabio a “sweetheart.” “We have such an amazing angel watching over us now and you’re in a very special place right now,” she said. The high school Interact Club in conjunction with the Forked River Rotary Club did their annual shopping spree at Walmart today
Approximately 68 high school students went on a shopping spree at Walmart today as part of the Interact and Rotary Club’s annual gift collection for families in Lacey, Barnegat and Waretown. The students arrive at the superstore at 7:30 a.m. where they receive envelopes with children’s gender, age and interests. Christmas gifts were bought for approximately 500 kids. With a full shopping cart of Barbies, baby dolls and Nerf guns, Treasurer Danielle Padovani and Jaimie Napoleon were shopping for a five and seven year old girl as well as a 10-year-old boy. “We don’t know anything about boys. We’re kind of winging it,” Padovani said. “But we put a lot of heart into it.” Napoleon enjoys volunteering for this event because kids whose parents …

Golden Paw, Academic and MVP award winners recognized
The first annual fall sports award celebration was held Thursday night at Lacey Township High School honoring the athletes who competed this season. Earlier this school year, when the ceremony was originally proposed, it was criticized as parents and student-athletes were concerned that it threatened individual team award gatherings. Administration and the students compromised to have both ceremonies coexist. “It didn’t come easy. It took a little strategy, a little compromise and I think everyone in the end was happy and the bottom line is we could be here this evening to celebrate our fall athletes who have been great ambassadors for the high school the last three months,” Athletic Director Karen Hughes said. Community members can have a sundae with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lacey Township High School. The Lacey Township High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association is holding its annual Sundaes with Santa. Admission per child is $8 and includes a sundae and one free photo with Santa. There will also be make and take crafts, face painting and tattoos. A 50/50 raffle will also be offered. Those who bring in a canned good for the Lacey Food Bank will receive a free tattoo. The Lacey Food Bank is serving more families since Hurricane Sandy
More than 200 families in Lacey received turkeys today after the Lacey Food Bank’s annual thanksgiving meal distribution. “It’s really a community-wide effort,” said Harvey Allen, President of the Forked River Rotary Club. Both Walmart and Shoprite made donations for the meals and the Forked River Rotary Club as well as Lacey Township High School Interact Club volunteered at the distribution. Students arrived at 7:15 a.m. to unload truckloads of food. They organized the tables and placed one of each food item—turkey, peas, carrots, bread, stuffing, cranberry sauce and more—in a bag. More than 150 gather in new development to remember pilot, a Lacey High grad
More than 150 friends and family of Capt. Nicholas Giglio, a 1995 Lacey Township High School graduate, gathered in the new Cimarron Woods development in Forked River last week to dedicate a street in the man's honor. Giglio, a 32-year-old U.S. Air Force pilot, was lost when his F-16 fighter plane collided with another during a training mission and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off of South Carolina in 2009. "He was just getting started with his career," said Jerry Giglio, Nicholas Giglio's father. "He would have been deployed to Iraq a week later." Lacey had the highest score of all the bands competing
The Lacey Township High School Marching Band recently competed in the Cavalcade of Bands circuit at Woodstown High School in Woodstown. As part of the Independence Division, Lacey was up against six other bands and took first place with a score of 77.90. The band not only won their division but had the highest score of all the bands competing. The band performed a show entitled The North Face. The songs of the 2012 Field Show included Minimally Speaking 1 The Journey Begins, Minimally Speaking 2 The Death Zone, The Final Push and Joy.

More than 73 students have registered for various classes
More than 73 high school students have registered for the new online learning program so far, according to Principal James Handschuch. “This week students should be logging on and rolling,” he said. Students will be taking a wide range of courses—psychology, art history, micro/macro economics, Japanese, personal finance, Latin, Java programming and law and ethics are just some of the options. “I think it’s a strong response by the student body,” he said. Administrators and mentors attended a workshop to prepare for the start of the new program, which was announced at the August school board meeting.
