What do you think of the governor's statements that are angering conservative critics?
Gov. Christie told MSNBC Monday morning "the President has kept his promises" regarding Sandy relief and that he has "no complaints." Christie, a Republican with likely presidential aspirations, also said on the "Morning Joe" program that he tells his conservative critics that he was just "doing his job" when he worked with Democrat Obama in the grim weeks and months following Superstorm Sandy. Arora and Associates, a Lawrenceville-based consulting civil and structural engineering firm, released a video Wednesday that contains stunning footage of the Mantoloking breach created by Superstorm Sandy. The video chronicles the efforts of the company's employees to engineer a solution to closing the breach, shoring up the island and rebuilding Route 35 and the base of the Mantoloking Bridge intersection.

Deadline extension applies for homeowner, renter and business registration with SBA
Residents impacted by Superstorm Sandy now have until May 1 to register for individual disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to a prepared statement from the governor's office. The deadline extension also applies for homeowner, renter, and business registration with the Small Business Administration (SBA) for Disaster Loan Assistance. Businesses applying for SBA Economic Injury loans still have until July 31 to apply. The loans are for businesses that did not suffer any physical damage, but lost revenue in Sandy's aftermath. State and federal offiicials have urged all residents and businesses affected by the storm, whether it was through flooding, wind damage or loss of business revenue, …

It won't be a repeat of the 2010 post-Christmas blizzard, but a coastal storm will bring rain, high winds and the threat of flooding to the Shore area Wednesday into Thursday. A coastal flood watch was in effect for Monmouth and Ocean counties and a wind advisory stretched the entire length of the shoreline from Sandy Hook to Cape May. Rain was forecast to begin falling across the region by 1 p.m., forecasters with the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly predicted. The Small Business Administration (SBA) and FEMA will explain how businesses damaged by Sandy should apply for financial assistance at a meeting on Monday at the White Sands. The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce are welcoming business owners and managers from across Ocean and Monmouth counties to attend the session from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the White Sands, 1205 Ocean Ave., Point Beach. Mayor reacts to USA Today analysis that suggested Lacey had a poor FEMA rating for flood preparation
Despite a report that suggested Lacey Township has one of the worst FEMA ratings for flood preparation, the township was ready, Mayor Mark Dykoff said. According to the USA Today analysis, Lacey Township "ignored federal incentives" to reduce flood damage, "even as they have been flooded repeatedly." This inaction may lead to extra costs to taxpayers for disaster relief, higher premiums for those with federal flood insurance and lost discounts for property owners. “I don’t have an explanation at this point in time,” Dykoff said of why Lacey would disregard federal incentives. “The proof is in the pudding.” Compared to some communities that were completely devastated by Hurricane Sandy, Lacey fared well, he said. “We fared so much better …

Stresses storm may knock out power for 7-10 days
Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) President Don Lynch says the company has learned from the mistakes it made from Hurricane Irene and is ready for Hurricane Sandy and the threat it poses to the state. The company took heat when Hurricane Irene left many New Jersey towns without power for days - and, in some cases, weeks. Many thought JCP&L's response was too slow. The biggest lesson learned is getting the information out to customers and municipalities as specifically, quickly and often as possible, Lynch said. Township committee agreed to spend more than $107,000 on repairing drainage issues caused by the Easy Street retention basin
Residents on Lake Barnegat Drive North by Easy Street may not have waterfront properties, but they will soon get relief from lake-like flooding. The township committee voted unanimously Thursday to pursue the entire Lake Barnegat Road project, which would address drainage issues on the road. “It’s a safety issue,” Committeewoman Helen DelaCruz said. The township recently was awarded a $250,000 grant for road improvements to the area but by a vote of three to five in July, the committee decided to overlook the drainage issues and cover 5,525 feet of paving at $291,015. Flaw in retention basin has led to flooding at homes on Lake Barnegat Drive North for over 19 years
Margaret Kluin sat in the Municipal Building wiping tears from her eyes as residents discussed the much-anticipated Hurricane Irene before the township committee. For 11 years the Kluins have lived on Lake Barnegat Drive North, where the Easy Street retention basin fails and floods their home three to four times a year. “Each time we have a significant rainfall we wind up with flooding and sewage water on our property…The water has nowhere to go,” Kevin Kluin said. The retention basin was constructed years ago to improve drainage issues the area would have during heavy rains, Kevin said. But the pipe is only 10 inches wide when the standard is 18 inches.
