Others have had no power at all for 10 days
Gov. Christie told a gathering on Long Beach Island on Wednesday that the coming Nor'easter and anticipated snowfall would likely cause "a setback" in the work underway for full power restoration. Boy, he wasn't kidding. JCP&L, on its website, is acknowledging that the nor'easter has created new outages, often for customers who were hit with outages in the height of Sandy's destructive path, had power restored and are now in the cold darkness yet again. "Late Wednesday, heavy, wet snow and high winds from the nor'easter resulted in approximately 120,000 additional power outages in the Jersey Central Power & Light service territory," says the JCP&L website. The company serves 13 counties in New Jersey, including Monmouth and Ocean. There …

A fire ignited in the oven of a Beach Boulevard home Wednesday afternoon
An oven fire sparked in a Beach Boulevard home this afternoon but was contained and controlled within minutes, said Ray Brandmahl, Chief of the Forked River Fire Company. A call came into the Forked River Fire Company at 4:23 p.m. for a “fully involved” fire on the 100 block of Beach Boulevard, Brandmahl said. The blaze was "small." “It was mostly contained to the oven,” he said. There were no injuries reported and the house is livable, he said, although, the area will have to be cleaned up. Some of the cabinets and wall sustained damage. “I was impressed. The fire department responded quickly,” said Kryzie Louis, who lives next door. Louis’ neighbor ran up to the family and said her house was on fire, she said. She was able to smell the …

The fire that left the Forked River home uninhabitable originated on the porch, officials say
The fire that destroyed a Penguin Court home early Monday morning was deemed accidental, Ocean County Fire Marshal Robert Cook said. Fire departments responded to the scene at 12:55 a.m. It took approximately two hours and 30 firefighters to control the blaze. No injuries were reported. “The front of the house was totally up to the roof with flames,” Forked River Fire Department Chief Ray Brandmahl said of the department’s arrival on Monday. “You could see the glow from a block away before we got there.” “It was very hot,” Brandmahl previously said. “Electrical wires were popping and insulation was burning out in the street.” The fire was accidental in nature and originated on the porch, Cook said. Cook is not releasing the cause of the …

Forked River and Lanoka Harbor fire companies battled an attic fire at 1136 Laurel Blvd. in Lacey on Friday night. The first arriving fire units found fire blowing out of the attic of the two-story private dwelling. It didn't take long for firefighters to get the fire under control, knocking down the bulk of the fire by 7:20 p.m. after about 20 minutes. Lanoka Harbnor's aerial piece went into service and assisted firefighters who were inside the structure, making headway toward the fire. After knocking down the bulk of the fire, crews went into a hitting-the-hot-spots mode to make sure there were no hidden pockets of fire. There were no injuries, an eyewitness told Patch. Because of the length of time the two fire companies were going to…
