Volunteers Wanted for Saturday Cattus Island Clean Up

Clean up effort will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Toms River park

In an effort to get the trails in Cattus Island cleaned and re-opened following the deposit of debris by Hurricane Sandy last month, a volunteer clean up at the park is scheduled for Saturday.  Organizers are aiming to sign up 100 volunteers to participate in the clean up effort at the 530-acre Toms River park from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. So far, about 65 participants have pledged their support, according to Joanna Marino, the AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador who is organizing the effort. "We'll be picking up trash, fixing trails, and removing debris that was deposited in the park as a result of Hurricane Sandy," Marino said in an email.  Those interested in participating can email Marino to confirm their attendance or simply show up at the …

Township Establishes Additional Clean Up Days for Flood-Damaged Areas

Residents can call the Village Lutheran Church for free tree and debris removal

Approximately 1,869 Lacey residents remain without power, according to JCP&L, after Hurricane Sandy and a snowstorm struck the area. Lacey is on its eleventh day of cleanup efforts and “are progressing aggressively to bring our Township back to some form of normalcy,” Director of Public Works Casey Parker wrote in a letter to the township. Due to the wind and tidal flooding, there were many forms of destruction and damage, he said. “Our clean-up efforts focused on tree removal, silt, sand and mud removal, debris removal caused by floating objects, accumulated brush piles from yard cleanups, street sweeping, minor infrastructural repairs and the difficult task of removing the accumulation of damaged home interiors due to tidal flooding,” he…
