The Lacey Township Board of Education will convene for its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the high school’s Lecture Hall. Return to Lacey Patch at that time for live coverage. During this meeting, the board will vote to appoint Business Administrator Jim Savage as a Public Agency Compliance Officer, do a first reading of a policy that moves the board’s reorganization meeting to January, revise the school calendar and more. Tonight’s agenda includes a 2011-12 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report by Frank Holman, Homan and Frenia, PC. Following the presentation, the board will be voting to accept the financial report. The agenda states that there are no audit findings. Regina Discenza has run for school board for the past eight years. As an active resident in a town of approximately 28,000, Discenza became involved when she heard Home Depot was coming to town. “That was when I began to pay attention to Lacey Township,” she said, adding her concerns about traffic. That’s when Discenza started to summon records on the Home Depot project. “OPRA is a great tool for any citizen who wishes to verify public information,” she said. The Board of Education will be holding its monthly meeting in the high school Lecture Hall at 7:30 p.m. Join us for live coverage. On the agenda for this meeting is an Online Learning Presentation. Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower has previously said that the district will be implementing a Blended Learning program, which will provide high school students with the opportunity for online learning. It is Brower’s vision that by the end of each student’s high school career, each individual will have one online class on their transcript. Deadline would have been today in April election, but board moved election to November
The move from an April school board election to a November one means new deadlines to run as a candidate. Now, candidates have until June 5 to file a petition to run in November, said the county clerk's office. Today was the deadline under the April system. Lakewood will still have an April school board election and budget vote, but nearly every other school district in Ocean County decided to move its school board election to November. That also means the Lacey Township School District budget will no longer be before voters and will instead be decided by the school board this spring, unless the school budget grows more than 2 percent.
