Owner dropped Errol off Thursday, complaining that he wants to run and play too much
Errol was just turned back into the Associated Humane Societies at Popcorn Park Thursday, after being adopted out for six months. “This is a sad day for our good friend Errol,” Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park said. His owner said that he “can’t tolerate Errol any longer,” Hickman said. The owner complained that, “all he wants to do is run and play, and he pulls the leash out of my hand while being walked” and that, “a .22 and a shovel are what would fix Errol,” Hickman said. “Obviously this was far from the right home that we wanted for Errol,” she said. Errol, a 7-year-old black lab mix, originally came to Popcorn Park in the fall of 2010. He waited almost two years to be adopted. He arrived from down south with a group of seven other dogs…

Although Prissy has medical needs, she is now thriving and looking for a new home
Prissy, an eight-year-old pug, arrived at the Associated Humane Societies in January “completely comatose,” said Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park, a Forked River based rescue facility. “We received a call in January from a distressed person that needed to have her deceased pet removed from her Keansburg home,” she said. “We dispatched our Animal Control Officer to the home and when we went to retrieve the pet, he realized something just wasn’t right.” The home was in disarray, the owner was disheveled and Prissy was breathing. The owner had explained that the dog must have eaten something and died several hours earlier. Upon noticing Prissy was still alive, the Animal Control Officer immediately brought her to the veterinarian at Popcorn Park…

Mandy may be a 10 year old Yorkie but she is "young at heart," said Sandy Hickman of Popcorn Park. Mandy arrived at Popcorn Park's animal shelter after her owner moved out of state and could not take her along. Mandy first was given to a friend of her owners who also could not keep Mandy. "Mandy is a tiny little Yorkie with a big heart. She just loves life, and loves everyone in it. She is such a sweet, easy going girl with such a pleasant personality, that it's impossible not to love her," Hickman said. Hickman described Mandy as quiet, well behaved, very polite and super friendly. Unfortunately, a health issue had been neglected by her original owner. Those interested in adopting her will have to speak with Popcorn Park's veterinarian …

Sasha has been at the Associated Humane Society in Forked River for two years
Sasha left the shelter at Popcorn Park on a leash. Her nose at full force, picking up scents from rocks, grass and bushes. The American Staffordshire-Terrier mix entered a pen outside and began exploring, running around and rolling onto her back to have her belly rubbed. Sasha, 2, arrived at Popcorn Park in March 2011 as a stray dog. She’s been up for adoption since. The “beautiful lady,” as described in her adoption description, has a hearing impairment, although keen in all her other sense. Prognosticating camel improves Super Bowl record to 8-1
Princess the camel from Popcorn Park Zoo scored another ‘W’ when the Ravens clinched Super Bowl XLVII. Although it was a close call as the 49ers made a comeback in the fourth quarter, the odds were in favor of Princess’ prediction with the Ravens winning 34-31. Popcorn Park celebrated the victory with an update on its Facebook page: “Ravens win!!! Princess picking another Super Bowl winner… Priceless!” Each year, Princess predicts the winner of NFL games, including the Super Bowl. Princess makes her decisions based on graham crackers. Each week, General Manager John Bergmann writes the names of two teams competing and holds a graham cracker, Princess’ favorite snack, in each hand. Princess then chooses to eat the treat from the hand with …

Jersey, an two-year-old Malinois is looking for a home
Like so many Jersey Shore residents, Jersey, a two-year-old Malinois, was also displaced after Hurricane Sandy. Jersey's owner’s home became uninhabitable and when he relocated, he couldn’t bring the dog with him. “He wasn’t ready to take him back,” said Tiffany Price of the Associated Humane Societies. After more than two months at the Associated Humane Societies and Popcorn Park Zoo, Jersey is now up for adoption in Forked River. “He’s playful. He’s friendly. Housebroken. He’s been really good since he’s got here,” she said. The Malinois breed is a working dog, so Jersey enjoys “activities and keeping busy,” she said. Jersey is not accustomed to being around other animals, she said. “He’s a really good dog,” she said. Popcorn Park's web …

Local nonprofit animal rescue organization is collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy rescue animals as well as those who need assistance caring for pets after the storm
Popcorn Park continues to assist in locating pets and reuniting them with their owners after Hurricane Sandy, General Manager John Bergmann said. “We started getting calls to get animals people left behind,” he said. The nonprofit animal rescue organization has traveled across the Jersey Shore, including Seaside and Long Beach Island, to save everything from hamsters and ferrets to dogs and cats. “They’re still rescuing now,” he said. “They’ll be doing it for a while.” By the time Popcorn Park arrived at the homes, the storm surge from Sandy receded. Dogs were territorial, he said. “You’re a stranger,” he said. “They’re scared. Their owners aren’t there.” Some of the homes were severely damaged and there were times they had to go through …
