New location opened Friday on Route 70 in Lakewood
WaWa celebrated the grand opening of its newest Ocean County location Friday by making donations to local Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. CEO Howard Stoeckel presented a $10,000 donation to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey while marking the opening of the convenience store chain's new location on Route 70 in Lakewood. "It's remarkable how people have been bringing the community back to life and supporting one another," Stoeckel said. A tractor-trailer containing 8 tons of food and disaster relief supplies was parked alongside the store. Over 260,000 meals have been delivered by the food bank since Sandy struck. Don't give on impulse, do some research, Ocean County Freeholders say
Are you considering dipping into your savings to help Japan? The Ocean County freeholders are encouraging residents to do so with caution. “Unfortunately, after a disaster of this magnitude strikes so do those who wish to profit from the generosity of others,” said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. “Beware of charitable organizations that may have magically come into being overnight following the disaster.” Approximately 4,000 fraudulent charity websites were tracked after Hurricane Katrina, according to the FBI. With the latest batch of wintry weather, local blood banks remain on edge. Their supply is at a 10-year low, as more than 18,000 expected donations have gone uncollected because of the weather. In a press release issued before last week's storm, Richard Benjamin, Chief Medical Officer of the American Red Cross said, “This latest storm is expected to further impact our ability to hold blood collections. We continue to need the public’s help to rebuild our blood inventory back to a safe and adequate level.” The Penn-Jersey region says that they're also experiencing shortages as well, but the…
