Registration Open for Relay for Life of Berkeley and Lacey Townships

The event will take place at Veterans Park in Bayville on Saturday, May 18

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Berkeley and Lacey Townships is set for Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. at Veterans Park in Bayville. As of Friday, 12 teams and 29 participants were signed up. So far, $705 has been raised. Last year, the event raised more than $52,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life typically features a survivor luncheon, entertainment, food, a luminaria ceremony and a fight back ceremony. In 2012, the event also had activities planned for each hour such as a magician, pony rides, face painting, games and relays. The funds raised at the Relay goes to various programs provided by the American Cancer Society including the Reach to Recovery program, which introduces breast cancer patients to …

Party kicks off work for 2013 American Cancer Society's joint Berkeley-Lacey Relay For Life event

In the time it takes you to read this article, someone, somewhere, will be diagnosed with cancer. It could be no one you know -- this time. But chances are that you already know someone who has or has had cancer. Chances are, it's a family member. According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Cancer isn't choosy. But for those who've battled it, who are fighting back, it is a very personal fight. That desire to fight back against a disease that has changed their lives is what drew 50 people to the cafeteria at Central Regional High School on Thursday evening, for the kickoff for the 2013 Relay for Life event. So far, more than $52,000 has been raised for the American Cancer Society

More than 300 registered participants took part in the 2012 Relay for Life of Berkeley and Lacey this weekend. So far $52,866 has been raised for the American Cancer Society. The event included music, food, relays, games, fun activities for children, survivors laps around a track, and luminaria and fight back ceremonies.

Relay for Life's Activity Schedule

The Relay for Life of Berkeley and Lacey Townships kicks off at noon

The American Cancer Society's Berkeley-Lacey Relay for Life officially gets underway at noon today, with a survivor's luncheon. With 345 participants making up 39 teams, $46,165 has been raised for the American Cancer Society as of Friday, May 18.  It’s not too late to get involved! Interact Club Raises Close to $5K for Charitable Causes

Interact's last fundraiser, Dance for a Cure, will take place on Monday, May 14

Gorgeous Gowns, a prom dress shop ran by the high school Interact Club and Forked River Rotary Club, raised close to $5,000 and will be donating the funds to various local causes. “It was fun,” Rotary member Lori Aceto said. “We had a good kick at the end.” Dresses were sold on weekends for just $20, some of which were typically valued more than $300. The remaining dresses will be donated to Goodwill of Bayville and the American Cancer Society, which runs a dress program for patients from ages six to 60, Aceto said. Gorgeous Gowns Offers Formal Dresses at an Economical Price

All proceeds will benefit local and international non-profit organizations

High school girls can dress to impress at a more economical price and knowing their cash is going towards a good cause for this year’s prom as Gorgeous Gowns remains open for the next month. “It will benefit many causes,” Lori Aceto of the Forked River Rotary Club said. The Rotary and Lacey Township High School’s Interact Club are running the boutique, formerly known as Patti’s Prom Project. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit local as well as international non-profit organizations. The dresses were primarily donated by Robin Bahr and her daughter Elizabeth, founders of Patti’s Prom Project. Relay For Life Kickoff Slated For Thursday At Central Regional Middle School

Event is open to anyone who wants fight cancer

  The annual Berkeley/Lacey Relay for Life takes place on May 19. But event organizers are working behind the scenes to prepare for the event at Veterans Park. A presentation about the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life  Life will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Central Regional Middle School off Forest Hills Parkway in Bayville, said Roxanne Stephens,this year's chairperson. "Anyone can participate, whether or not there is a direct connection to cancer," she said. Many Berkeley and Lacey residents participate each year. And Berkeley Mayor Carmen F. Relay for Life to be held Saturday at Veterans Park in Berkeley

Event will raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The Relay for Life at Veterans Park in Berkeley will be an 18 hour fun-filled, but serious event that begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and runs until 6 a.m. Sunday morning.  The relay celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer, provides an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died, and raises money for The American Cancer Society. "Cancer never sleeps, so we don't sleep," said event coordinator Bradley Bennett, explaining why it runs through the night.  "We'd love for people to come out," he said.   Cancer survivors are invited to a Survivor's Luncheon on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., he said .  Three hundred people are already signed up and another 200 are expected, said Bennett.  The Relay for Life website says teams will camp …

Hundreds Shop at Patti's Prom Boutique

Over 400 girls lined up at Patti's Prom Project for their grand opening

Patti’s Prom Boutique's grand opening was nothing less than that as the seasonal store is offering $20 prom dresses to high school girls while also benefiting the American Cancer Society. The April 9 grand opening for Patti's Prom Boutique, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, was a success as over 400 girls lined up outside an hour before the noon opening. The joy and excitement was palpable.  For a $20 donation to the Cancer Society's Relay For Life, Monmouth and Ocean county girls can walk away with a ravishing dress, many of them brand new with the tags still on. Pattis Prom Project and the American Cancer Society Partner for Prom Season

Girls can purchase prom dresses for $20, all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society

Ocean County girls will be dressed like princesses this prom season, thanks to the American Cancer Society and Patti's Prom Project. This event, run by Robin Bahr and her daughter Elizabeth, is in effect, a two-way street. Girls come in and give a $20 donation to the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life," and in return, they get to choose from thousands of gorgeous dresses and gowns, shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories to wear to prom. Elizabeth, founder and chairperson, thought of the idea when she was in high school. She saw similar fundraisers in other areas, and wanted to bring the sharing and caring to her own community.
