Retired Judge to be Honored at Gala

Ocean County College hosting event

Retired Superior Court Judge Robert A. Fall of Point Pleasant is this year’s “Humanitarian of the Year’’ for the Ocean County College Foundation, which will honor him at their annual fund-raising gala on the Toms River campus starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 27.

Proceeds go to the foundation’s scholarship fund, which helps a growing number of students attend OCC.

“It will be the social event of the year that you have to be at,’’ declared Stephan R. Leone, who is chairing the “Grand Slam Summer Celebration,’’ to be held in the OCC gymnasium to accommodate the anticipated crowd. Tickets are $250 for admission, food, entertainment and music, Leone said.

Fall retired earlier this year as a trustee at Ocean County College. He was appointed to the Superior Court in 1986 and in 1998 was named to the Appellate Division of Superior Court, the state’s second highest court. He retired from the bench in 2006.

Leone said this year’s major gala sponsor is Investors Savings Bank.

OCC President Dr. Jon Larson said the foundation’s role in helping students pay for college continues to grow. He said the college now ranks 87th among the top 100 institutions for the number of associate degrees it awards among all similar colleges in the country, according to Community College Week.
