PHOTOS: Lacey Day a 'Special' One for Residents

Despite the threat of rain, Lacey Day draws a big crowd.

The forecast called for rain all Saturday afternoon. However, despite some ominous dark clouds, the weather held up for most of the 2012 Lacey Day.

“The weather always cooperates with us for Lacey Day,” Mayor Mark Dykoff said. “There has been a really great turnout today.”

According to Mayor Dykoff, Lacey Day started years ago as a carnival, and as time went on it became quite expensive. The day has been scaled down to the event that was presented today. Food was donated by Walmart and Shop Rite and supplies donated by Home Depot.

“Today is about bringing the community together,” he said. “Getting to know the local organizations around Lacey.”

Senator Joe Kyrillos stopped by Lacey Day and said it is one the best festivals in the area.

“This is really impressive. I’ve been to my fair share of events, and this one is very impressive,” Kyrillos said. “There’s great food, great music and great booths. The people of Lacey should feel proud. This is a special day for them.”

The day featured a list of events, including a live demonstration by Okinawan Ishin RYU Karate, as well as live music by Reality Check, a local band that recently played at Bamboozle.

Director of Recreation Jim Wioland said that families look forward to Lacey Day.

“This is a great way to celebrate being a part of the township,” Wioland said. “We are very happy with the turnout today.”

Kathy Cauldren, a Lanoka Harbor resident, said that she enjoys going to Lacey Day.

"This is the best Lacey Day so far. Its a great way to get to know local businesses," she said.

Around 3 p.m. the dark clouds started to open as a little rain started to fall, but not enough to drive people away. With the humidity as damp as it was, some people welcomed the light shower.

“You know you can’t make rainbows without a little rain,” Wioland said.
