Rutgers Assistant Basketball Coach Resigns

Jimmy Martelli resigned from his coaching job on Wednesday.

Rutgers basketball lost another member of its coaching staff with the resignation of assistant coach Jimmy Martelli on Wednesday.

According to a report on NJ.com, Martelli resigned Wednesday following the firing of head basketball coach Mike Rice.

Martelli released a statement to the Associated Press in which he apologized for being a part of Rice's controversial coaching technique.

"I am sickened that as an assistant coach I contributed in any way to an unacceptable culture. Wednesday I resigned from Rutgers and I hope that coaches on all levels will learn something important from these events," Martelli said.

Rice was fired from his job on Wednesday after a video of Rutgers basketball practices surfaced in which Rice can be seen kicking and shoving players and using abusive language and gay slurs.

Martelli can also be seen in a portion of the video shoving a player twice, according to the report.
