Super to Present Midterm Report at School Board Meeting

Midterm report will reveal findings in three categories: teaching and learning, culture and community and operations

Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower will be presenting her midterm report at this month’s school board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“I have had the privilege over the past few months to work alongside a team of committed and passionate people who care deeply about Lacey Township students,” Brower said. “I am excited more than ever for the opportunity to serve this school community.”

Brower began her superintendency in November with a transition plan focused on three phases of listening, learning and leading. The plan included meeting with “stakeholders” such as students, parents, teachers, staff, members of the community and the Board of Education.

During the course of her 90-day “listening tour” many shared their feelings of pride in the school district while others shared concerns, Brower says in a summary of her midterm report.

The midterm report will be “an aggressive plan to prioritize achievement, address access and achievement gaps and improve alignment with operations and finance,” she said. It is framed in three categories: teaching and learning, culture and community and operations.

Brower’s transition team, which will continue to help review data, meet and listen to stakeholders and corroborate findings and recommendations, will guide the process.

More will be revealed at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting but Brower says in her overview that a set of themes emerged in the teaching and learning category.

“The accomplishments of the district in the area of teaching and learning are well-known and well-documented,” she said in her summary. “They occur in classrooms, on the fields, and on our stages. Yet, stakeholders were also open in their acknowledgement of the challenges facing the school district and shared ideas for the changes needed.”

As for culture and community, Brower believes the relationship between the two influences the school district’s climate and work. She hopes to continue to deepen partnerships with parents, students, staff and community.

Brower also reviewed the current status of operations, including efficiency and effectiveness of finance and facilities, technology, human resources and communications.

The goal of this area is to ensure district services are effective, efficient and equitable.

She pointed out that technology is a key focus for Lacey Township.

“Technology provides students with knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in the twenty-first century and allows for efficiencies in operations,” she says in the summary. “The role of technology in the classrooms is critical both as a tool for instruction and the deliver of content.”

“This service comes with awesome responsibility,” Brower said. “I commit to the Lacey Township Board of Education my best work, my best thinking and my very best actions.”
