School Tax Bill May Decrease Under Proposed Budget

School taxes to decrease by .1 percent

The average Lacey homeowner would pay $2.96 less in school taxes under the school district's proposed budget.

This is a .1 percent change since last year.

The school district business administrator James Savage and the township tax assessor Theresa Poznanski released numbers that determine the average tax bill.

The tax rate from 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 remains at approximately 92 cents per $100 of assessed property value, Savage said.

The average assessed value of a home in Lacey Township in 2010 was $318,244 while the average for 2011 is $317,924.

In 2010 the average person would have paid $2947.89 towards their tax bill while a resident may pay $2944.93 in 2011.

The Lacey Township Board of Education is proposing a zero percent tax increase.

The spending total has increased by 3.6 percent with an overall budget of $68,886,794.

But between a $612,488 increase in state aid, $1.1 million generated in Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs), approximate 35 percent saved in electric bills, and the teacher’s salary freeze last year, the board was able to craft a budget to hold the line on tax increases, Savage said.

The proposed tax levy is $39,413,121, which is a 2.69 percent increase since last year.

The Board of Education will be holding a school budget hearing on Monday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lacey Township High School Lecture Hall.

There, the board will unveil the entire proposed budget to the public as well as address the public’s questions and concerns. They will also show a PowerPoint presentation stressing the zero percent tax increase and highlighting school district statistics in comparison to the county and state.
