School Report Card: Advanced Classes Lack Students

State of NJ Department of Education releases school report cards

The school report card for Lacey Township High School (LTHS) reveals that the number of students taking advanced courses is significantly lower than the state's average. Despite this difference, the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) results are just below the state's average and 80 percent of the students plan to attend a two or four year college or university.

The State of NJ Department of Education released report cards for schools throughout the state including each of the schools in Lacey Township.

School report cards are released each year and are categorized by school environment, student information, student performance indicators, staff information, and district financial data.

Data from this year’s report card for the LTHS included:

  • The average class sizes for grades nine, 10, and 11 at LTHS is above the state average. The total average of the high school is 16.8 while the state is 18.2.
  • The Student/Faculty ratio is 11.5 compared to the states 10.8.
  • The percentage of Students with Disabilities is 16. 5.
  • The number of students ranked proficient in the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in Language Arts Literacy is 77.6 percent, which is a 3.4 percent increase from the 2008-2009 school year. The state’s percentage of proficient students 69.3 percent.
  • The number of students ranked proficient in the HSPA in Mathematics is 59.8 percent, which is a 1.1 percent increase from the previous year. The state’s percentage of proficient students is 50.7 percent.
  • The number of students taking the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) decreased by 16 since the 2008-2009 school year. The average score for LTHS are as follows: Mathematics- 505 versus the state’s average of 520, Verbal- 484 versus the state’s average of 497, and Essay- 484 versus the state’s average of 499.
  • The Advanced Placement Participation for grades 11 and 12 is significantly lower than the states percentage. Only 6.6 percent of LTHS students take AP courses while 19.9 percent of the state participates.
  • The dropout rate of LTHS students is at 2.2 percent while the state’s is at 1.7 percent.
  • The graduation rate for LTHS students is almost even with the states at 94 percent versus the state’s 94.7 percent.
  • Post Graduation Plans: 85 percent of LTHS student’s plan to attend a two or four-year college or university while ten percent plan to seek employment.
  • Faculty and Administrator Credentials: 74.4 percent have a Bachelor’s Degree while 25.6 percent have a Masters.
  • The average salary of a school administrator in Lacey is $104,049 compared to the states $117,895. The average salary of a Lacey Township teacher is $52,848 compared to the state’s $61,840.
  • Local taxpayers funded 60 percent of the school district budget opposed to the states 51 percent.
  • The total cost per pupil in Lacey Township is $12,884. The state average was $15,538.
