School District Set for Annual Volleyball Tournament

Parent Teacher Association-coordinated tournament to be held Saturday, Jan. 21 from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Cedar Creek Elementary School will be fighting to defend its championship at the annual school district volleyball tournament at Lacey Township High School on Saturday, Jan. 21.

“It’s a coordinated effort,” Carlene Sramaty of Cedar Creek’s Parent Teacher Association said. “It’s really a township event.”

The tournament is hosted by several Parent Teacher Organizations and Board of Education members will be refereeing, she said.

Each elementary school creates teams made up of staff and compete against each other, said Carolyn Roselli, Lanoka Harbor Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization President.

The tournament has been held for four years and Cedar Creek won last year, Roselli said. “There’s always a big competition of which team is going to come out first.”

The event will feature a local DJ, the high school boosters club will be providing the food and donations will be made to the Lacey Food Bank. Everyone is encouraged to bring a canned good. For those who do, they will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 Walmart gift card, Roselli said.

Funds generated from the food will go towards the Booster Club’s scholarships for seniors, Sramaty said.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. All proceeds will be split between the elementary school’s PTAs and PTOs. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

“We try to keep it affordable,” Sramaty said. “This is an event we want families to come out for and show school spirit.”

The high school gym is typically packed to capacity, she said.

“It’s been a phenomenal turnout,” Sramaty said. “It’s the kids who get really excited about the event. They’re really happy to come out and cheer on their teachers.”

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the tournament begins at 6:15 p.m.
