Provide for the Pride Event to Collect Donations for Local Food Bank and Church

The televised event will be held at the high school on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 3 to 8 p.m.

Provide For The Pride, a fundraiser for those in Lacey that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy, will be held at the high school on Sunday, Nov. 18 from 3 to 8 p.m.

The event will serve the purpose of raising donations for the Lacey Food Bank and the Lacey United Methodist Church, which have been serving the community since the storm and will be on site for collections.

“It’s not a telethon in the traditional sense,” said Steven Krawiec, Co-Station Manager of WLTS TV-21, which coordinated the event with the Student Government Association and the National Honor Society.

The event will be televised and people are encouraged to stop by with donations. Those who donate monetary funds or supplies will be featured on camera in an interview, Tom Lytle said.

Lytle assisted the Boy Scouts in working on an Ocean Gate home that was severely damaged by the storm, he said. The group took the floor and drywall out and removed the waterlogged furniture.

“We got to do something,” he thought.

He and the students organized this fundraiser.

Other businesses can also set up tables at the event. Although, only the food bank and the church are to accept donations, businesses can offer instructions on how residents can get involved.

“Our main objective is to get people through the door,” Lytle said.

Entertainment will be provided. The high school cheerleaders and dance team will be there and there will be a wii system set up on a big screen for kids to play. There may also be a food eating contest.

“The more people can humiliate themselves the better,” he said.

For the event, residents can send their photos and videos of storm damage to photodropbox@laceyschools.org. There is a 20 mb limit but residents can contact the district by email to have photos sent another way.
