PHOTOS: High School 'Elves' Deliver Gifts to Local Families in Need

More than 500 kids throughout Lacey, Waretown and Barnegat will receive gifts this holiday season from the Forked River Rotary Club's Elves Program

More than 200 families throughout Lacey, Waretown and Barnegat received bags full of Christmas gifts as members of the high school's Interact Club went door-to-door delivering items purchased from the local Walmart.

Arriving at 8 a.m. Tuesday, students unloaded a truckload of bags and sorted them according to town and location. Then they were on their way to deliver the Christmas gifts to families in need, some of which have been displaced due to Hurricane Sandy.

"It's nice helping people living in the same community as you," sophomore Billy Nally said.

The students purchased gifts at Walmart last week for approximately 500 children as part of the Forked River Rotary Club's Elves Program.

Volunteers from the Forked River Rotary Club drove students to each home to deliver the gifts such as baby dolls, Legos and basketballs. Each family also received a pillow and a blanket.

Those families that were home during the time of delivery were gracious for the gifts.

"I liked being able to see the smiles on the families faces as we gave them the gifts," junior Maria Coppola said.
