Patch Voter Guide: April 27 School Elections

Voting information for the April 27 election

Mark your calendars and block some time out of your schedule to head to the polls on Wednesday, April 27.

Although the Board of Education election is unopposed, registered voters will have the opportunity to vote for the returning candidates as well as the tax levy.

As for the tax levy, the school board has proposed a zero percent tax increase and is asking voters to vote on a $39,413,121 in support of its $68,886,794 budget.

Up for re-election are current board President Bruce Carney and current Vice President Jack Martenak.

Background on the Candidates

Martenak

Martenak has served two terms since 2005, one as vice president and one as president.

Martenak, an engineering manager with the U.S. Navy at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Trenton State (now The College of New Jersey) and a MS in Aerospace Science from Embry-Riddle University.

Martenak was born and raised in Pennington, New Jersey before moving to Lacey with his family 14 years ago. Martenak is married and has a son who is a senior at Lacey Township High School.

Carney

Carney has served four terms since 1999, twice as president and several times as vice president.

He was born in Newark, New Jersey but lived in Monmouth and Ocean Counties most of his life. Carney moved to Lacey Township 23 years ago when he and his wife were looking for a good school district for his daughter who was five years old at the time.

Carney has his own heating and air conditioning business and has been active in Lacey’s youth sports, including soccer, basketball, and baseball. He has also been the President of Lacey Girls Softball for 19 years.

Polls are open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., April 27.
