Number of Violence, Vandalism Incidents Drop in Lacey Schools

State begins tracking bullying incidents as well

The number of violence and vandalism incidents reported to state education officials last school year was down significantly in Lacey, a report out from the state this week says.

During the 2012-13 school year, Lacey school officials reported four instances of violence, three instances of vandalism and three substance abuse cases to state authorities. There were no weapons incidents reported.

The total number of reports of violence is down from 24 during the 2011-12 school year. That same year, there were seven reports of vandalism and eight cases of substance abuse.

Lacey school officials also reported a total of 43 instances of harassment, intimidation or bullying in the 2012-13 school year. Those statistics were not compiled in previous reports.

There were few scenarios from which local comparisons could be drawn due to differences in district sizes. Barnegat Township, which educates about 1,400 fewer students, reported 10 HIB incidents and Manchester Township, which educates about 1,500 fewer students, reported 19 incidents. Brick Township, which educates 9,586 students, led the county with 62 HIB reports.

Last year bathroom monitors were in every hallway. This not only reduced smoking and drug use in the restrooms but reduced violence and vandalism all over the school. They were a constant positive presence in every area. They positions were eliminated this year. Expect those numbers to go up significantly.

Number of Violence, Vandalism Incidents Drop in Lacey Schools. It should read the school district failed to report the Number of Violence, Vandalism Incidents that is why they Drop in Lacey Schools. The BOE has never accurately reported the school violence, drugs, vandalism, arsons, etc… on the school report card. FACT

That high school is full of scum bags and druggies, I'm so afraid to send my daughter there next year. I listen to the police scanner and hear the police being dispatched to the school frequently, especially for out of control/violent students. This place is more like a correctional facility. They like to sweep any and all negativity under the rug!

Your comment is extremely inaccurate. Both of my kids go there, my daughter graduates in June. We have had absolutely no problems with druggies, scumbags, violence or bullying. The entire school should not be judged on a few bad apples. And it really is just a few
