Murder Mystery Dinner Theater At Captains Inn Aug. 5

Production by the Burning Stage Theatre Company features local talent

A murder will take place at the Captain’s Inn in Forked River on Friday, Aug. 5 and diners will play an integral role in solving the mystery of “whodunit.”

The Burning Stage Theatre Company, Lacey Township’s new acting troupe, will perform “Murder Me Always” by Lee Mueller, a playwright specializing in murder mystery, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lacey Road restaurant.

“It’s your typical murder mystery where a murder occurs in the first third of the play and the audience is invited to participate and help a Joe Friday-like character solve it,” said Brian Stike, the theatre company’s artistic director.

Playing the detective will be Steve Hensle of Lacey Township. Hensle is a 2010 graduate of the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES), but he participated in many Lacey Township High School drama productions with Stike, who is the high school’s theater director.

“There are a good handful of local graduates from the past few years in the murder mystery,” said Stike.

Stike said he formed the theatre company last year to create full-scale professional level productions using talent from Lacey Township and the surrounding area. He believes this is the first local theatre company in Lacey in 20 years.
