Lions Latest: Boys Lacrosse Picks up Win

A look back at the past week for Lacey High School sports, along with a preview of what lies ahead

Baseball: Lacey came within just a whisker of turning in a winning week, but fell just short to Manchester in a 1-0 loss, going 1-2 on the week. After falling to Central Regional 6-4 on Tuesday, the Lions bounced back strong on Wednesday, but came up one run short against Manchester. The Lions' Brian Emerson was fantastic, as he stymied the Golden Eagle bats all afternoon. Emerson yielded just six hits and with only one strikeout, his defense was efficient as well. On Friday, a 6-4 win over Brick was just what the doctor ordered to help lift spirits after the tough loss. A six-run fifth inning carried the Lions to victory and was punctuated by a Victor Kochanowski three-run home run. Tyler Dickson and Ryan Reitmeyer each had RBI-producing hits prior to the big blast. Donovan Waller was tagged with the win after pitching five innings.

On Monday, Lacey will take on Central Regional at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Pinelands Regional on Wednesday for a 3:45 p.m. game.

Softball: The Lady Lions picked up two wins over Brick Township in as many days, earning wins three and four on the season in the process. In the first game, an Ocean County Tournament play in game, Lacey put up three runs in the first and six in the fifth inning, to provide more than enough for the 10-2 victory. Katie Valiant helped her own cause with a two-run triple, as she was credited with the win striking out two. Lacey would put up another 10-spot on the Dragons, this time with Cassondra Zitani getting the win. The junior struck out four. Aly Smialowicz and Sara Wright combined for five RBI's.

Boys Lacrosee: A jolt of happiness was felt all throughout the boys lacrosse program, as they picked up their first win of the season on Thursday. Two late goals gave the Lions the result they were looking for, with a come from behind 7-6 win. In the total team effort, the Lions had seven different goal scorers. Brock Torre scored to tie the game with five minutes left, and three minutes later DJ Hodgson scored the game winner.
