Letter: Parent/Guardian Meeting to be Held in Response to High School Senior's Death

The District Response Crisis Team as well as grief counselors will be available at 6:30 p.m. to provide parents and guardians with information to help children cope with loss

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, we learned that a member of our senior class, Daniel DiFabio, died at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with the DiFabio family and we extend our deepest heartfelt sympathies.

Today at school each teacher read a short message in homeroom. Guidance counselors and our mental health professionals were available throughout the day to talk with students who knew Dan and those who may have had a difficult time dealing with this very sad news. Private and group sessions were available as well as quiet places for students to be with friends. Counseling services are extended until 8 p.m. this evening.

Any death is difficult for people to understand. We recommend that you take some time to discuss this news with your family. Young adults benefit from talking about how they feel and of any fears or concerns they have as a result of hearing this news. Our website has a list of suggestions and resources to help you.

Our school will be open this evening for counseling services for student and parents until 8 p.m. Additionally, there are counselors and school staff available for Lacey Township parents and guardians to help you understand the best way to help. A Parent/Guardian meeting will be held at the high school at 6:30 p.m. this evening for all parents in the district. Members of our District Response Crisis Team as well as grief counselors will be available to provide information about common reactions to news of a student death and the role that parents can play in helping children cope with loss. Please do not hesitate to contact a counselor in any of our schools for help as well.

Sincerely,
